Lets say that Tsvangirai wins... he has a difficult task ahead of him in many ways, but the one thing that strikes me is that 100,000% inflation which is getting worse (and probably is already worse)

how on earth can he deal with that?

reverse EVERYTHING that Mugabe did. Invite the whites back. Encourage production and capitalism.

Any new leader is likely to get a substantial amount of foreign aid to help rebuild.

Invite in the IMF, and do exactly the opposite of what they recommend. :p

Some of the things can't be reversed. It's simply not practical to remove sleeping sickness from the country anymore--western livestock has big problems.

A colleague asked me recently how soon business from Zimbabwe would pick up. :)

"Er, it could be a long while yet."

It could take decades to dig themselves out of the pit that they are in, even with a good government in place.

Of course they can be reversed. There was no agriculture there once, and there has been a flourishing agriculture in the recent past. What was built, then destroyed can be rebuilt. It will take will and money.

The agriculture is the first thing that needs to be restored.

The thing is, the initial situation wasn't done by man but by disease. Most of the large animals had been wiped out. They took advantage of the situation and set up a barrier to keep out the teesee fly that carries it. Mugabe didn't maintain the barrier.
