Well, the opening episode was not bad. Catherine Tate did surpringly well as the new companion.

Yep, the lady done good :D

Not a great story, but not bad as an intro, with some interesting foreshadowings such as spoilers deleted, because I like my teeth where they are, thank you very much!

I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the season.

Ha! Ha! I vaguely remember the very first episode of Dr Who with William Hartnell in the title role. It was in 405-line BW telly and the scenery looked made of a mixture of cardboard and rubber. It was stunningly badly scripted and acted, so no change there.

Missed it tonight, but on purpose because my girlfriend is recording it and we will be watching it together. :)

This is revenge for BSG not being on yet, isn't it?

Wasn't the first BSG episode last night...?

Yes it was, but not in in the UK. Turnabout's fair play. ;)

But you didn't, since they repeated it on Sunday and you still got to watch it before going back to work and having to admit to the other Dr Who geek in the office that you had missed the episode. Next time YOU can sort out the recording of stuff...

I thought it was dreadful and all the stupid comediac (not) hamming it up was crass. Bring back Martha.

It's getting too self referential.

I will not post a transcript of the conversation that was held around the games table last night about Doctor Who, Torchwood, crossing one's timeline, etc, etc, etc...

Aw, I had fun! Of course, I did have a nine year old to watch it with, that helps. And for the record, what she liked best was "all the running round and missing each other".

I guess we can't expect a "Human Nature" every week?

My 9y/o daughter loves the show also, which definitely keeps me grounded whenever I start nitpicking nowadays. She and I both loved the episode (where there's a will, there's a way - we managed to watch it on saturday afternoon over here in Canada... :D ) - of course, there was that one thing that surprised the hell outta her... I'm actually a little jealous that she can be so in the dark about spoilers for these shows - I just can't help myself when I hear about them and I have to look...

Hmmmm - "I'm sorry I'm late for work, but I got caught up in a big ball of timey-wimey...."

Think that would work?

I see that they used a Martha lookalike - I wonder if Ric Griffin realises his daughter is moonlighting as a journo...

Anyway - Torchwood has knocked Doctor Who back to the realm of a "kids' programme" - Dang, am I the only one who thought Toshika was terminally cute?

Nope.

She's cute alright - but cuter than Martha? That's a tough call...

A terminally (literally) cute lady who is a genius with computers... she gets my vote.

Of course she'd probably take me to the cleaners at <insert-comp-game-of-choice> which could be disabling in a long term relationship.

Catherine Tate as in "Am i bovvered" Catherine Tate?

huh.

Yeah - but don't forget that she was a serious (Shakespearian?) actress before she went into comedy, and that the "Am I bovvered" character is just one of many characters she plays.

She's not playing that character in Doctor Who.

huh. i didnt know that to be honest, I think shes a genius for that series of Shelter for Abused Gingers sketches though.

I'm not a massive fan of Dr WHo tbh (to me the character dies when they got rid of Tom Baker) but i've heard good things about the newer ones. Maybe i'll take a watch.

I thought Ecclestone was great in the part. Tennant I think is even better.

If you look at the link Monad supplied it seems Robert Carlyle might replace Tennant....giving us the first serial killer, Liverpool fan Doctor!

Actually it is ironic, a doctor that killed another doctor in another series...

Now that would be a Doctor to be reckoned with, one that The Master, Davros and all Manchester United fans would truly fear.

I wonder if he's going to show up as Romana's husband or something. That'd be fun. And I'm glad to see that Davies and the crew were geeking out about Dawkins. :)

I'm still waiting for a sequential thread titles beauty. ^This title is gold.
the best one i noticed over the last couple of days was
"Brits. Dr Who is about to come on Bill Hicks"

I'm pretty sure i missed that particular episode.
"Dr Who is about to come on Charlton Heston, dead at 84" is also a potentially interesting one.

Carry on. :D

Maybe I should start a thread just titled Billie Piper, or Nicola Bryant. or "Billie Piper and Nicola Bryant"

When I heard Tate was going to be a full time companion I wasn't too keen on the idea, she was kind of annoying in the Christmas episode.

So far though she has been really impressive.

People tend to see Tate only as "that annoying 'bovvered' comedian" and forget that she's an RSA trained Shakespearian actress...

To be honest, I liked her in the Christmas special too. Sure, she started off annoying - but then she was supposed to - but the character really matured during the course of the episode. It was believable as a passage through a life-changing event for Donna.
