LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.
The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.
Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.
Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure."
I have this bizarre urge to scream "Soylent Green is people!"

the only bad bit about it is that someone didnt shoot him.
That his death did not involve a gun shows that there is not enough irony in the world.
Still, hope his family and friends are ok.

He was an a-hole near the end but a progressive man when younger. Who knows what happened....senility maybe.
From wiki
"Heston campaigned for Presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson in 1956 and John F. Kennedy in 1960.[9] When an Oklahoma movie theater premiering his movie was segregated, he joined a picket line outside in 1961.[10] During the civil rights march held in Washington, D.C. in 1963, he accompanied Martin Luther King Jr. In later speeches, Heston said he helped the civil rights cause, "long before Hollywood found it fashionable."[11]
Following the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, Heston and actors Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas and James Stewart issued a statement calling for support of President Johnson's Gun Control Act of 1968.[12][13] He opposed the Vietnam War and said he voted for Richard Nixon in 1972."

Or he could have been killed in the Civil Rights marches he participated in.
How does that saying go?
Being an unquestioning conservative when you are young shows you don't have a heart.
Being a unquestioning liberal when you old shows you don't have a brain.

I think it was Churchill, but I am not sure that saying holds much credibility anymore given how neo-cons resemble creationists in their belief in supply side economics and unregulated free markets despite almost 30 years of evidence that neither work.
