Hi everyone! Most of us probably know each other already, but I see other familiar faces "introducing" themselves for the nth time on the nth forum, so who am I to spoil a good thing?

My name's Octavia, and I'm from NZ. Am currently doing a Masters in science communication, of which the main task is to write and publish a book (mine on a bastard historical mix of astronomy and atheism. Warning: if started on this topic will soon become dreadfully tiresome). I'm into tramping, love to read, and write very bad short stories and some okay science poetry. I also help out on the Nontheist Nexus - specifically, the ezine. (Can bore on that topic as well.)

Thanks to Pendaric for inviting me here!

Thanks for the welcome! And Alethias, I haven't seen you around for ages! At least it feels like ages... how's it going?

Thanks for the welcome! And Alethias, I haven't seen you around for ages! At least it feels like ages... how's it going?Very good. I've found a place here that feels like home, or rather I'm helping to turn it into home. A group of us are working very hard at that.

Yippee. Welcome aboard from that land down under. Is it true that the men storm and the women thunder?

Sadly (as it is a great song) that's the Aussies. You can tell because the song refers to that disgusting muck Vegemite, when anyone with a working set of tastebuds knows that Marmite is the one true spread.

DIE, HERETIC.

Everyone knows that Vegemite is the One True Spread.

Marmite = Bonox stored in a bucket of small change.

Not dying, sorry. :p

And Vegemite is too disgusting! It's far too gluggy. The texture is horrible!

Fantastic to see you here Octavia.

Welcome Octavia! I've had the Marmite you are talking about, because we have friends who are Kiwi. After tasting it, I can't say it's bad, but I don't know that I would eat it, a lot.

I've never tasted Vegemite.

I think I will stick with different jams, for now.

Jams are mostly too sweet for me. I like the salty taste of Marmite! Although I did persauade some German friends to try it once, and they made faces at it! Obviously uncultured.

(BTW: you're not missing anything in not trying Vegemite, no matter what HNA may try to tell you.)

Jams are mostly too sweet for me. I have to satisfy my sweet tooth, somehow. Plus, I love fruit.

Oh dear HNA. Everyone knows that Vegemite is what we train small girls and americans on before graduating to the real stuff.

Welcome Octavia. :)

Sometimes (not often) I regret the lack of a rep button.

Really good to see you here.

David B (likes marmites, hates that gritty apology for a yeast spread)

Will take bribes to pretend to like it. Oops! Probably should have made that clear before now, huh?
