I nominate Rathpig for Admin at Large, with the Bureau of Sabotage portfolio.
TR needs an internal critic. Rathpig strikes me as a good choice for this.
Sorry, I don't understand what you are actually suggesting. Could you please enlarge on it a bit?
Great, when we get an opening we'll know where to look for a replacement.

I think Rathpig is doing a good job where he is right now and I can't really imagine him in some sort of official position, although I wouldn't be opposed if he actually wanted to go for it.
when we get an openinglol
Do explain what you mean by that.

We try to not let the staff:member ratio get out of hand here. It's a longstanding principle.
David B, I like you, but I can't think of a post that would scream "WE NEED MORE CRITICS" louder than that one.

I was being sarcastic, the outlandish staff:member ratio is sort of a running joke.
It has a clear explanation---a mass, planned migration of IIDB staff with a certain level of fundamental agreement and collegiality.
lol
Do explain what you mean by that.LOL, no. its self explanatory, figure it out.

I don't do power. I am flattered by the suggestion though rigs. I would love to help this forum in any way possible, but I loathe power. It clashes with my iconoclastic nature, and I don't want to have to stand in opposition to myself (though I often do).
I am here. Anything I can do to help is on the table. I don't expect acceptance of any idea I post. I don't even expect consideration. All I would like is an opportunity to voice an opinion. That alone will keep everyone enturbulated.
(And I guarantee at some point everyone of you will get pissed at something I write since it is my egalitarian nature to spread the love.)

I did. It was a haughty, dismissive non-response. There is no such thing as an "opening" here, unless you are saying that the number of 8+4+10 was arrived at through careful considerations and web numerology. There is no reason why the number couldn't be one higher or one lower.

Well, those who founded the board do seem to have similar visions of what a good board should be.
More accountable and open than iidb, but not to the point of being so anarchic that the bulk of discussion revolves around the rights and wrongs of certain individuals.
A board which maintains some sort of decorum, but not to the point about being Pharisaical about the odd derail, or calling a spade a spade.
A board which gets rid of those who persistently act like jerks.
For instance, there's a lot of discussion about ombudspeople, in the case of disputes, and what precisely their roles should be and how they are chosen.
Actually, I think that Rathpig, like Nialler and a few others, would make great ombudspeople.

Perhaps if we had some electric buttplugs and used them, that would solve the problem?
For the record, I do not eat quattro formaggio pizza nor do I like opera, and I have not bee a mod nor an adm. on any other Internet board or forum.

Despite my disappointment with some of things laughing dog said, I still think that he is a quality staff member. He seemed genuinely contrite over how some of the things developed. He also wasn't a staff member at IIDB, which I think gives him some perspective.
One problem that I personally notice, is that a large portion of the staff here, were staff at IIDB, and almost everyone of them did not have a problem with IIDB, until ToM went crazy. So, the fact that this place is turning into IIDB 2 shouldn't surprise people.

Rathpig (IRL PTS/SP)Tis a shame. I think you'd be good at it. You're one of those that I tend to disagree with at times, but so far, I feel like I can trust you to not give a damn what others feel when you are strongly convinced. I'd much rather bounce ideas off someone like that than someone that automagically agrees with me whether I like it or not.
I think that as the need arises you'd make a good ombudsman.

Which does, in a not really very ironic sense, make you very qualified. :)
I would welcome Rath as one of the 'ombuddy' positions. I think we would not have to worry about him being a yes-man, or mincing words.
As for the thread about Mason, I need to find out if anyone has asked him if he minds the entire thread being made public. As Febble said, the only reason there was as much discussion as there was is due to some wanting to cut him more slack, and a sense of compassion (completely unwarranted, it appears, but that's my opinion, and several of us so called yes men disagree...)

Mason, made the whole thing public. Or at least as much as he can get a screenshot of before you changed his permissions. I don't know what you guys gossiped about after you booted him out, but what was said before, was posted in screenshots on RnR.

Yes. One, they were screenshots and mason sucks at photoshop. Two, one of the dozens of staff over here could have simply said he did, if that was the case. None of them disputed his post.

As I've stated I would be more than willing to help out when and where needed. My opinion is usually even available unasked. (My wife can testify that this isn't merely an internet trait).
I despise in-crowds and secrets though. Life is much too short for bullshit.

Mason did reproduce the entire thread (up to that time) in a post at RnR. I don't think Mason is the quote mining type.

Yay! Rathpig for ombudsmodadmingadflywhistleblowerdudeofpower!
Also,
1. That "when we have an opening" crack was not funny at all, and made it seem more like we really need to open things up more.
2. Can the Mason stuff stay in its own thread, please?
3. Also, can PD's open my thread stuff also stay in its own thread. (And why would you not? He's explicitly asked for it.)

This could be interesting in-and-of itself since I am fairly libertine. Those who seek rules and think structure is a good thing would find me AWOL most of the time. As I've stated somewhere today, I think the only valid use of the hammer so far at TR has been Latinijral.
I would be a boring fucker as a dictator or a mod.

That's my memory of his RnR post, too.
I haven't been back to check, but I don't think he copy pasted the entire thread up to the time his permissions disappeared.
My impression was that he was selective in what he copy pasted, though not mischievously so - no more mischievously than posting it in the first place, anyway.

It was a valid question actually. I stated a fairly strong opinion and did overlook the one real menace we probably all agree on.
I opposed the death penalty, except of course in the case of spammers.
