the following thread:

http://talkrational.org/showthread.php?t=1081

proposes that the post count increasing every time someone posts is codified - i.e. there are no fora in which posting does not add to post count. While on one hand I can see a point to this, on the other hand I think it's overly picky and doesn't really get to the core of things, which is stopping arbitrary changes, and in any case, anything which is codified can be uncodified later, and every time we find something that needs codifying, we'll have to go through this whole rigmarole over again and that would just be a pain in the arse when something needs doing quickly.

I would suggest that from now on, whenever a rule changes, or an admin makes system changes, that it is publically announced. There aren't usually too many anyway... I changed registration settings the other day to stop spambots, and there was a bit of work to alter the way reported posts work, but at least this way, if something is changed you'll know about it, and if there are any concerns, you can question it.

The poll is just to see if there is support for this suggestion and any concerns/suggestions you might have, at the end of the day the staff will have to ratify it.

I don't have anything against it personally, but I think most announcements of system setting changes would be dull stuff, unless it changes how the board physically behaves for members in a way they could or would notice.

that's why I included rules/procedures.

and yes, most system settings changes would be dull - and we don't change system settings anyway, but it's not always for us to decide whether something is a minor issue or not. It's like removing the self-ban title which one one hand was trivial, but on another hand was highly insidious. This is just a protection against measures like that tbh.

Might as well. It's easier than trying to explain something a week later after someone finally noticed, then having to go find the thread where the discussion occurred.

Announced at the level they apply. If you double the size of the mod's mailboxes that doesn't need a general announcement, only an announcement to the mods.

I would also exempt anything meant to stop spammers or the like--no need to disclose the security system.
