I'm avoiding asking this in the other thread as I'm only halfway through season 2 on DVD so I don't want to spoil my enjoyment by seeing the wrong thing. I'm just on the episode after "Resurrection ship" so people in the know will know who got killed at the end of that. However I've seen the same person on the cover for Razor so where does that fit in with the whole series? Is it a flashback or something? I'm having to avoid Wikipedia as I don't want to see spoilers but it's very hard to get a clear idea of what order I should be watching stuff in. I even got thrown when I loaded up the first season DVD only to find I'd missed a lot and had to hunt around for the miniseries first. Apparently there are some webisodes and all sorts of spinoffs too - where do they fit in and how do I even get hold of them all?

I'll try to answer with out putting any spoilers in.

Yes. A large percentage of Razor was flashback (pre-second Cylon war, I'm pretty sure).

I would check scifi.com on the BSG part and see if they have an official timeline or something. I've never went and checked out the webisodes myself, so maybe someone else knows.

There are webisodes between seasons 2 and 3, and seasons 3 and 4. The season 2 finale is pretty shocking (well I found it so) and the webisodes are a must after that I think. Season 3 is quite simply fucking brilliant.
Razor is mostly flashback, and has some fabulous twists in it, though I kind of saw some of them coming. The season 3-4 webisodes are mostly already included in the Razor main feature, and you can watch them separately on the Razor DVD.
ETA: it also explains quite a few of the things you're watching now.

Where do you find these webisodes? Does "Webisode" mean they're downloadable?

You can view them online from the US I believe, but not from Britain. Have a look at the Sci-Fi channel's website. I had to use dodgy old methods to get them. :)

From what I've worked out so far is the time line this?
1 Miniseries
2 Season One
3 Season Two
4 Webisodes
5 Season Three
6 Razor (but mainly flashbacks)
7 Season Four

Razor is all new stuff, but it tells the story of the Pegasus and reveals certain other interesting things as well.

I'm only 5 episodes into season 2, so i'm not reading any of the above posts.
I'm a little annoyed by the creeping in of fantasy/religion into the plot.

That pissed me off as well, but it holds up pretty nicely. Most of the religion stuff is entirely political, at least early on. No idea how it pans out in the new season.

I don't mind that it exists, because it would be unrealistic for it not to. My biggest concern is that where it is right now seems to make it very critical to the plot.

Weirdly though, that's kind of why I like BSG. Because it treats people like people, warts and all, unlike the faux-angelic Federation in Star Trek. And people are weird about religion, as everyone on this forum knows.

Up to the last 4 episodes of series 3 now. I need to get hold of Razor next I guess. I'm getting a bit sad it's coming to an end (till I get hold of series 4 that is).

Maybe it works all over Europe too. US and Canada I don't know.
I am not able to look at the Sci-fi.com channel when they have free streaming of BSG S4. Copyright things for Europe I guess.
but maybe works the other way.

I am mixed about all the religious things. But as I get it. Religion is both political and personal in the series. Kara Trace seems to take her faith rather personal.

Don, I should not participate in this thread. I fail to write without doing spoilers.
Now that you talk about how season three ended me almost forgot that Monad want it to be spoilerfree. I am too easily triggered I guess.
There are great cliffhangers in the Season Four too.
