Anyone see the Charlie Rose Show (http://www.charlierose.com/home) last night? Subject was on science literacy in America. Good discussion.
Some of the focus being on the methodologies not being taught, due to so much effort being put into teaching the conclusions already reached. This causing the average person to become overwhelmed and withdraw from considering science as something applicable to everyone's life.
That being a problem because, an educated populace, being essential to a functioning democracy, a knowledge of science should be part of what is considered to be an educated person, regardless of one's profession.
