I don't know what the title would be...maybe Morality/Moral Issues, or something like that. It could be a subforum under Philosophy or General Discussion.

I don't see any reason why not if there are enough of those threads to warrant one, but I'd like to hear what all of you Philosophy mods think since that's where these types of discussions end up now.

MF&P was one of my favourite forums over at II. It straddled the philosophy / politics line quite nicely. I'd be happy to see one here.

I've got no strong feelings either way on this one, other than that I don't want to see a proliferation of rarely-used fora.
But if you guys think there's enough traffic to differentiate between philosophy and morality then go for it...

I don't think Philosophy has sufficient traffic at the moment to justify splitting it down further, which is essentially what this would do. We've only had 27 threads in there since the place started.
I'm with Dean in that I don't want to see several scarcely used forums.
It might be something for further down the road when we are busier, but I don't think it's appropriate now.

I agree with Pendaric and Umop here, though it does make me think, do the present fora cover things clearly enough. I was thinking for example that "media" seems a bit limiting and could be expanded to "Media and Arts" to cover more ground.

As long as I don't have to mod a forum, feel free to expand them to any number.

Well, I think eventually it's going to be warranted, even if things are slow right now. And moral issues tend to be a mixture of philosophy and politics, as HNA said.
I'm not saying we have to rush this or anything, but I am saying that there's an inherent categorical distinction here that may eventually be necessary to make explicit. Quantitative measurements are useful, but things have to make sense, too. Like the Arts and Media idea.
As for moderation responsibilities, I don't see why the Phil mods couldn't take on a subforum or two. For the very same reason that Pendaric mentioned - there's not a lot of moderating to do at the moment. (I know, I know. Start a thread or two, then.)

I think Ethics is a big enough and specific enough subject to warrant its own forum.

Count me among the folks who don't think there's enough traffic at this point. I suspect that if the current rate of growth continues there will eventually be enough traffic to warrant a morality/ethics subforum (and possibly a logic subforum), but at this point splitting the topic would just make Philosophy and the proposed subforum look empty.

I think we should visit this again in a few months, maybe.

I think it might be premature now, but if lots of people ask for one, and if the active membership continues to grow steadily, it might be a few weeks rather than months.

I'd be happy to look at it again in a few months, but I'm not sure that the traffic is here for it right now in the way that it might be for the debates or Promoting Secularism forum.
