We have an experienced volunteer who is prepared to run one, with the possibility of incorporating formal debates and exclusive engagement styles threads.
It's something we haven't got at the moment, and I feel it would be a very worthwhile addition.

A yes from me.
I particularly like the idea of having exclusive engagements as well as formal debates in the same forum.

I think it's definitely worth a trial run, especially if it's utilized for the exclusive engagement threads, also.

Since someone has volunteered to run it, I don't see how there's a downside to this. Have there been any objections to having such a forum?

None that I'm aware of.

I voted yes since we have someone with the time and experience to run it.
If we build it, ... naw. I can't finish that. It's a resource that would be good to have available.

Definitely - putting the "exclusive engagement" threads there will give it some life between the (probably scarce at first) debates and not make it look unused - which is very offputting to some people...
(That was a "yes" vote, by the way!)
I can't think of any reason not to have such a forum as long as it can be used by any moderator to set up either a formal debate or limited engagement debate by members in their respective fora when there is a request. Alternatively, if there were a single moderator exclusively for this forum who would assist each moderator in setting up a debate and willing to moderate it themself.
So I voted yes.

Well, it would certainly be nice to have somewhere to put those threads where people won't post in them by accident.

I vote yes. I like the idea of having both debates and exclusive engagement threads in the same forum.

Yes from me as well, especially as KWSN is willing to run it. I think it would be a valuable addition.

Do we have enough to agree, and bring KWSN into the staff forum?
David (thinks that we must be getting close, anyway)

So I voted yes.Having once served as a temporary mod in IIDB's Formal Debates Forum, I really want an experienced mod in there! :D

Am I too late to vote? I say yes.

Nope. Not too late. More than 60% of total staff have voted yes on this one, so we've elected to have a formal debate forum. I think we just need to figure out the structure and forum-specific rules for formal debates and exclusive engagement threads before opening it up.
