Easter is a few weeks away and the Peeps have once again migrated from their wintering grounds to their spring roosting sites - grocery store shelves. Most of the basic biology of these amazing birds remains a mystery but recently researchers have managed to unlock a few of their secrets. Here's the latest in Peep Research (http://www.peepresearch.org/) for bird lovers, biologists, and chemists everywhere.

If you think they're horrible now wait until you see the effect smoking and drinking has on them!

Let the peeps smoke and drink, hopefully, they will ignite like the ones in the picture did. Down with the Peeps!

If you look under the :dunno: smiley there is a faint (More) that i need to change the font on. That is where it is. I'll be getting to that this evening after I take my youngest daughter on a date.

Ever nuke a peep? They get HUGE before they collapse.

It would be more fun if they exploded.

I hate when I do that and it isn't on purpose.

Peeps, and for that matter anything made of marshmallow, are simply evil.

All you have to do is eat marshamallows in my presence and I will begin to gag. I hate it.

There, now you know the weakness to my atheist superpowers - marshmallow is my kryptonite.

Oddly enough however, I love marshmallow cream and can even stand to melt marshmallows in hot cocoa as long as I don't have to touch them to get them there.

That's how I feel about peaches. I like them but I hate the fuzz. My whole face scrunches up just thinking about biting into something fuzzy or even touching one.

I thought about it for quite a while (for me, which is about 2 seconds) before typing 'biting into something fuzzy' but I couldn't figure out how it could be an innuendo so hopefully that was safe :p

If you'd like to know more about marshmallow peeps, there is a very comprehensive FAQ page here: (http://http://geekbabe.com/peeps/peepfaq.html#question6)

It contains a lot of facinating information such as
What is the origin and history of marshmallow candy?
Marshmallow candy dates back to ancient Egypt where it was a honey-based candy flavored and thickened with the sap of the root of the Marsh-Mallow plant (althea officinalis). Marsh-Mallow grows in salt marshes and on banks near large bodies of water. It is common in the eastern United States.

Do the different colors have different flavors ?
Officially, no. There are some who claim they can detect the color of the Peep simply by taste. I tend to disagree, however, one year I seemed to detect a very subtle nuance in flavor of the blue Peeps.

Although you might expect Bunnies to have a somewhat gamey flavor, they taste identical to Peeps.

Is there anything like a Guinness World Record for eating Peeps?
Guinness no longer sanctions any record of gluttony.

I doubt if Just Born would sanction such a thing either.

However, an annual event in Sacramento, the Peep Off has just such a contest. This year (2002), Jason (Peepicide) wins the prize, consuming 72 peeps in 1/2 hour.

Christ on a crutch driving a camero. Someone ate 72 peeps in less than half an hour? :yuck:

When did they recover from the sugar coma? Or did they?
