I got a new computer (MacBook Pro), and I'm putzing around setting stuff up. I'm wondering whether to try Thunderbird or stick with Mac Mail.

Firefox is a must, of course. I've got:
web developer
firebug
gmail space
colourful tabs
del.icio.us
adblock pro
bugmenot
noscript
restart firefox
session manager
image zoom

Anything else you love? Useful or amusing, whichever.

firebug, adblock and google toolbar are all I use.

noscript prevents the rickroll :)

And colorful tabs are good. Very simple. If you want it, use the US spelling to search. It's not actually "colourful", I was testing the Australian dictionary.

I like my Firefox lean and mean, so I'm fairly minimalist on the extensions:

Adblock Plus
NoScript

On my work computer, I also have IE Tab because some of the Intranet sites and applications my company uses only work on IE.

I also use Forecast Fox - a weather program that provides icons on weather forecasts, updated temp & weather info, and weather alerts. It sits quietly down at the bottom right of the screen and gives me info from any location I choose.

This one is a must-have.

Answers 1-click (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/735)

1-Click Answers TM will save you even more time with AnswerTips that instantly deliver the information you are looking for. Just point at any word, hold the Alt key (Ctrl in Linux) and click. Upon letting go, an AnswerTip in the form of a pop-up...

Alt-click any word on the screen and a pop-up comes up populated with answers.com info.

It's recursive, too. Alt-click any word on the pop-up ...

AdBlock Plus
Download Statusbar
ChatZilla
NoScript
UnPlug

-I previously had a load of addons that I never used so I deleted most of them and this is what's left.

Same here.

DownThemAll! is very handy for grabbing mp3 links on a page and quickly dling them.

My 'fox is fairly well loaded since I only use Linux:

AdBlock Plus ("Don't login without it")
BugMeNot
Chatzilla
CuteMenus ('cause I like the Crystal icon set)
Download Statusbar
DownThemAll
Fast Video Downloader
Fasterfox
Fission (progress bar in the address box, ala Safari)
Flashblock
Forecastfox
Launchy (mostly used for "mailto:" links)
Mediaplayer Connectivity (to send media links to MPlayer)
PDF Download
Tab Browser Preferences
User Agent Switcher (for sites the really dislike Firefox and Linux)
and
Zombie Keys (to make non-English characters readily available)

based on this thread, I think I'll install NoScript and see if I like it. Javascript blockers tend to be a huge pain in the ass.

It can prevent you from getting rick rolled.

I forget what it's called, but I have a spell checker that works when making posts on message boards.

The thought crossed my mind, but I am on thin ice around here as it is. I wouldn't want to feed into the paranoia.

Rickroll as I used it: the Rickroll song video, (Rick Astley never gonna give you up etc) plus a script that resizes your browser and links the close button and quit keys to popup messages containing the lyrics. A harmless but annoying prank - seems perfect for PD to post the link :D

With noscript, you get a warning bar at the bottom of the screen with how many scripts have been prevented and where theyr'e from. You can authorise all or some of them, permanently or temporarily.

What, am I the only one that uses this add-on? I don't know how anyone can surf without it. One click away from a definition for any term you see on any board or anywhere else on the net, and you don't even have to navigate away from the page you're viewing.

Seriously, this one's the bomb.

I like Foxmarks which is a Bookmarks synchroniser. I browse from several different computers, so this comes in handy.

Scrapbook is absolutely indispensable. I can carry my Firefox portable around with me on a USB Key and a complete growing searchable database of saved links to go with it - better than bookmarking as bookmarks die - very useful if you do any research.

Is this a subtle dig at "Escape Meta Alt Control Shift"?

Right now I have NoScript, AdBlock, and IE Tabs (for when you have no choice but to use IE).

I installed it, but the answer boxes are always empty. I am an internet idiot, so would you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Edit: Nevermind. I figured it out. My Firefox add ons were fighting with each other.

No idea what most of you are talking about: anyone care to do an 'Idiots Guide To' rather than just post a big list? :p

I use the Google Toolbar, but I think that's it.

Ooh, nearly forgot "long titles". Can't read xkcd properly without it.

For the uninitiated, go to Firefox-> Tools-> Addons.
Click the little "get extensions" link in the bottom right.
Play on.
