We'd like to come up with a new name and title for the Science forum, and I'm throwing the floor open for suggestions.
My own suggestion is Schrodinger's Cathouse.

I like it so long as we include the umlaut
Schrödinger
(I know impossibly anal - I'm like that with spelling and grammar too, sorry :dunno:)
Well, there's always an alternative to the umlaut -- put an "e" after the vowel. So Schrödinger = Schroedinger.

Just a word of caution... Cute titles are fun, but they make it harder to find the right forum when you want to post.

I agree and the cathouse doesnt seem to relate directly to science. Id think its philosophy!

Schrodinger's cat
Cathouse is a euphemism for bordello.

That's wayyyy to cerebral for me! But whatever it's called, I'll continue to read, and maybe occasionally stick my toe into a discussion.

I like it, as long as the forum description makes it plain that it's about science (should be obvious, but not everyone has heard of S. and his moggy).

Listen to Doug! I don't much like the idiosyncratic board labels. Of the two suggestions so far, imo "The Laboratory" is better, but what's wrong with the current title?
Simple and sweet, straightforward, and unambiguous is the way to go!

i like "The Lab"
That gives me the impression more of a place like Frankenstein's lab (where one might find Charred Remains (:))) than a place of normal scientific exploration, for some reason.

How about a compromise?

From a search engine perspective it would be better to have "Science" and "Skepticism" in the forum title. Maybe we can work Schroedinger into a forum description somewhere.

Btw, QM has a lot of woo going on. Schroedinger's cat is an example (both alive and dead!?). Quantum entanglement is another (spooky action at a distance ).
Also, I know the intended meaning of "woo" (something like ideas that seem more about fantasy magic than realistic science), but can't find it in any standard or slang dictionary.

'Woo' is short for 'woo woo', which means "unfounded or ludicrous beliefs" according to the Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=woo+woo). Quantum Mechanics isn't woo, nor is any part thereof.

Okay. (You'll notice, however, that "woo" isn't in even that dictionary with that definition!)
Quantum Mechanics isn't woo, nor is any part thereof.
There are reasons for thinking the cat is both dead and alive at the same time, however ludicrous the reasons and conclusion may seem to others. But that's always the case, no matter what belief or idea is being discussed! "Unfounded" and "ludicrous" are subjective terms. The former perhaps less so in a science forum, but not the latter. Einstein found quantum entanglement to be ludicrous, didn't he?
The "Beam me up Scotty" thread (from iidb) demonstrates that point - both sides claimed scientific and materialistic viewpoints, and both accused the other of a view leading to unfounded and ludicrous conclusions.
Basically, its a prejudiced and biased word that has no place in the title - or description - for a Science and Skepticism board.

The Urban Dictionary is rarely consistent about defining anything.

You should start a topic on this in either S/S or Philosophy. :)

I like it as it is. I can't really see the point in cutesy titles or subtitles, certainly for the more serious fora.

I always wondered about the 'Skepticism' part of the title over at IIDB. Why is it there? It seems to me that 'Science' says it all.
I agree with Garrett about 'woo'. And Octavia's subtitle is cool.
