I tend to avoid "reality TV" and even despise most of it, but for some reason my wife likes the "America's Next Top Model" show.

Sorry, temporary amnesia. I've watched that one a few times. And The Biggest Loser as well.

For some reason, I really enjoy Project Runway.
I have watched American Idol, in the past, but I lost interest.

OMFG I love project runway! We went to the city last week and did our own project runway tour.
We went to parsons, shopped at mood and went the the hersheys store where we saw the dresses they made from stuff in that store! They are all on display there!

I followed Kid Nation avidly, because a close relative participated. However, I rarely watch t.v. at all, and don't follow any of the other reality shows.

I'm so happy I'm not the only person who likes Big Brother (American version).
I use to be a junkie, I still don't miss an episode but I don't sit in front of the computer watching the live feeds anymore.
There are quite a few corny shows I like. Gone Country was cool. I like America's Most Smartest Model kind of.

the only "reality" program that has ever been worth watching has been THE OSBORENS. :) It's fun to watch and point out to young people - you see ozzy there? That's what drug abuse does to your body long term.

I sometimes watch the "showtime after dark" and I dont see how people could watch it. After 30 min of watching shelia paint her nails I get sorta bored.
Im excited to see who adam will nominate tonight!

Count me as another Project Runway fan. I've been watching the show since the first season. And I'm one of those people who tend to root for the "bad guy" (well, Santino anyway...didn't care much for Jeffrey as a person even though he was talented).
I knew that Christian was going to win this year but I really liked all of the final four and thought they were all incredibly talented.
I love Tim Gunn. I want him to take me by the hand and guide me through life's trials and teach me how to be a better person and how to fulfill my potential. We should all be so lucky to have a Tim Gunn in our lives.
Also, I really enjoy Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs. I know they're not traditionally thought of as reality TV, but they technically are.

I keep up with all the live feed updates so I already know who he will nominate and who has won pov, and whether or not it was used, and if it was who may or may not have been replaced.
I watch After Dark, it more like it's on while I am trying to sleep. Sometimes there is a fight that is worth watching.

Mythbusters certainly is good but I wouldn't call it reality tv.

Unless you count Dirty Jobs as a reality show. I love me some Mike Roe.

No, but I enjoy cooking and baking. Top Chef is fun because they have to use their skills and creativity quickly, and within certain constraints. It's kind of like Project Runway, I suppose.
The restaurant shows are interesting in a "behind the scenes" kind of way, although with some of the ones on Kitchen Nightmares, I might have been happier not knowing :)

I don't generally bother watching reality TV, as most of the time it seems to be a bunch of people desperate for fame without any talent to justify the search, which isn't all that interesting. Or rather, it isn't very interesting in a Big Brother setting, where its just them sitting around, bitching at eachother, sometimes doing some kind of uninspired task.
However, when it involves an ability, then it gets more interesting. As much as I could pretend to be a culture snob who wouldn't dirty his brain with such trash, things like X Factor are fun, at least initially. Largely that's because you get a good bit of schadenfreude watching people humiliate themselves trying to sing, then occasionally get surprised when someone genuinely talented walks into the audition. Totally empty TV, but fun. :D
Best kind of reality TV is when they are at least vaguely talented people challenging themselves. Not sure if these count as reality TV, but I really enjoyed Last Man Standing, and I also like the little I've seen of Fight Quest (just the BJJ episode).

I don't class science-oriented programs as "reality TV".

Nah, me neither. Reality TV is seeing how a selection of suposedly "ordinary (read precious wannable starlets) people" react in a contrived situation. And its bullshit.
Though that restaurant one with Raymond Blank held the attention for a bit. Best of the bunch IMO.
As i said in the pop idol thread, i'd actually watch Big Brother if it was the "Dead Famous" version with a bonafide serial killer as one of the contestants, or if some dangerous wild animals were introduced into the house in the night (think some annoying blonde ditzy stumbling blearily eyed out of the trendy bedroom into the clutches of a starving grizzly shebear, heheh. You could phone in for which animals "Now would you like the spitting cobra or the rabid rottweiler? Call now on............)

No... I wouldn't call Mythbusters "reality TV" either, but someone mentioned it... so... I had to say how much we like the show. :)
We've been really interested in historical documentaries, lately. And.. we enjoy most shows about wildlife... tho I really don't care for the more juvenile animal shows that are sometimes on Animal Planet.
I enjoy learning about the lifecycle of a specific animal for example. I am one of those people who picks up snakes and frogs and insects.
Just call me Ellie-Mae! :)

Indeed. I watch both shows (the only reality tv shows that I watch) precisely for those reasons, i.e., skills and creativity. Also, a lot of positive vibes exude from both shows IMO.

Lets hope you dont take any examples from Heather Mills McCartney then. I thought her back step totally wooden, and her 111,111 waltz count was most off putting.

Ok, understood. "Idiots" justs tends to come off awfully harsh.
Remember, this is the internet, it can be pretty hard to tell what is meant to be a joke and what is not! :dunno:
That and the fact im generally not good at telling whats a joke and whats serious IRL anyways! :D
With that said, all is ok and sorry for the over-reaction.

It seems Project Runway is the most commonly liked one.
I have to admit... I thought I wouldn't like it. I like fashion... but I don't care to design or be involved in the process of making it.
But, it's just very well done, and it's just a damned good show.
