I don't know that anyone cares about this but a handful of us, but in the interests of openness you have to put up with mundane operational stuff too.

The main reason for mods@large is so that we can stop spammers if no admin is around. Am I supposed to ban them or suspend them?

In case anyone is curious, being mods@large means that we have mod powers in all forums but it doesn't mean that we should moderate all forums. That's left to the forum mods who are closer to the situation.

If someone has only one post and their username is 'nudefarmsex' and they post a link to something rather indecent about farm animals, I don't see why it should be just a suspension.

Maybe ban them and delete the thread but report it so an admin can review and reverse it if they so desire? That sounds like a good approach to me.

If in your judgement it's not so obvious, you should suspend them and then we can discuss it.

I hear nudefarmsex is a drinker, so maybe we should cut him a little slack. :D
