Did anyone else in the UK watch the BBC series The Passion (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/programmes/thepassion/). Describing the Easter weeks events - I was quite impressed with it as a work, although there were a number of issues that were a little dubious from a textual point of view. Pilate with an Irish accent thanks to James Nesbitt's portrayal for one!

I found it an interesting take on the story, with Jesus clearly knowing about the power of publicity and spin, and the importance of fulfilling prophecies.

Anyone else have any views?

I watched some of it -- partly because Nesbitt was in it.

It seemed to be pretty well done.

I liked the bit about Jesus teaching that the kingdom was in compassion to the sick and poor. (I think there is only partial support from the gospels themselves for this, but what the hell -- it's television.)

I couldn't find any of the emotional bits touching due to the life of bryan. The guy next to jesus on the cross saying "Shut up" was so monty python!

I prefered Mel Gibson's take on it. Although it seems like the bbc went for some more historical portrayals of characters (For example Pontious Pilate being more of a hard line guy then Mel Gibson's wimpy character). I couldn't deal with the strong british accents though :P The whole thing just became too funny.
