Was wondering how many degrees of separation people are from noteworthy people. It can't be any more than 5.

I can get to George W Bush in 4.

Me - my friend Stu - his friend - his friend Jenna Bush - George W Bush

Biden in 2, so Obama in 3. We know the guy running for attorney general in NC through my son and his daughter's school, and he introduced Biden yesterday.

Most of the Carolina Hurricane team in 2, through a few different contacts we have that work with them.

That's pretty good.

I should say that I think the answers should involve reasonably solid links. So, my Dad met Tony Blair for 5 minutes once, but I don't think that really counts as a link. People may disagree with this though, so anything goes really.

I talk to Judd every day. Judd was the Research Director for Hillary's Campaign.

3* from Brian Mulroney (PM of Canada 1984-1993), which puts me at 4 from QE2 (she's good about taking calls from all her PMs all over the world) and 4 from Bush (the Mulroneys are still good friends of the Bush family).

* One of my links may be dead. Is that allowed?

By a completely different path, 2 from Roméo Dallaire, which would probably put me at 3 from most people presently in Canada's parliament, including Harper. So there's another way to be 4 from QE2 and 4 from Bush.

2 from George Takei.

2 from Bryan Adams.

I haven't even thought about my physics contacts, which would probably turn up some pretty cool stuff as well.

I can also get to Obama in 3 without using Judd or Hillary.

Me - Friend/colleague Jon Cardin (tried my first case with him)- His uncle Ben Cardin is a US Senator and on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs - Barack Obama is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs

I chatted with and hugged Eddie Izzard last March in Boston.
No separation except our clothing.

Which was a shame.

Wow. How?The late Roul Tunley (http://books.google.com/books?id=PklFcIwqaPAC&pg=PA328&lpg=PA328&dq=mitford+tunley&source=web&ots=n3YHl8AD3_&sig=wCQ6b-KPAPgEMgAYrKWhMe4TmdI&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result) was a close friend of my family and knew Jessica Mitford. Mitford's sister was chummy with der Fuehrer. (http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/last-of-the-mitford-girls-on-manners-family-and-taking-tea-withthe-fuehrer/2008/05/24/1211183177014.html)

3b) Tony Blair > 4b) George W Bush

3c) Jim Callaghan > 4c) Neville Chamberlain > 5c) Adolf Hitler

Objection: As a mass murderer, 4b is 21st-century. Not that he was innocent in the 20th, but nothing approaching his 21st-century crimes.

Yeah, I knew Bush Sr's pastor, so I guess that's about 2 steps from me to W.

I wish it were more, but Texas is a small place. :)
