We had discussed this before, but I can't find the original thread.

When George Carlin expired, a nice simple RIP banner was set up in the site header. Later on suggestions were made to maybe get a banner going where there's a lot of white space then/now, with rotating quotations of freethinkers (not necessarily just atheists). It wouldn't be a difficult thing to set up just a text-based display, and we've got a great think tank here to make suggestions for a database of quotes.

So was this just something that got lost, or was there an issue with it?

I just hate all that blank space that can serve a purpose, not just quotes, it could be used for major news as well (as the Carlin quote was).

It got lost in a welter of other stuff keeping staff folks busy at the time. We plan to continue using the white space occasionally to announce major concerns, such as the charter ratification vote. In this poll (http://talkrational.org/showthread.php?t=5827), people expressed a strong preference for a link beside the banner over things like a forced-read thread or an all-members PM. There's no reason why we couldn't have a quotation up there when we're not in the middle of an important vote or discussion needing member input, though.

Thanks for the update. Just wasn't sure what had happened to the idea.

God, I loved that Carlin banner. The timing was so perfect.
