Watching part 2 now.
Anyone else seen it?
It's pretty well done, but one thing is bugging me.
I've always visualised Rincewind as much more Rodney than Delboy.

Aww, not fair! I don't have Sky, or the technical knowledge to do anything illegal about it. :(
I know what you mean about Rincewind's look, but if that's the only problem with the program then I'll be happy. And after all, David Jason knows a thing or two about comedy, and I'd sooner have an actor who looked wrong but performed right than the other way round!
Any chance of a longer review soon?

I haven't seen the second part yet (was out with the lasses) but the first part was very well done, I'm with you on the Rincewind thing, the guy who played the wizard (can't remember his name, the one in Teatime's gang) would have been a better choice imo.

I showed my mother the trailer for TCOM online and she almost squealed with delight when they flashed to a brief glimpse of the Luggage running over a mountain.
Can't wait to see it over here. :)

That was Nigel Planer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Planer), who to me will always be Neil from The Young Ones.
He's also been playing the wizard in Wicked in London.

I'm obviously going against the flow here, but I was disappointed. I watched the first part, but I wasn't sufficiently motivated to watch the second.

I always felt from the description in the books that Ricewind would look a bit more like Mackenzie Crook (and Vetinari could be played beautifully by Alan Rickman).
Besides, David Jason played Albert in The Hogfather, so now it sort of has ruined it if they were to do another film with Albert since it would confuse the audience no end.

Oooh. Mackenzie Crook would make a great Rincewind! And, dammit, he deserves to be the star. :)

Maybe he was too expensive for Sky to get, or maybe they had a contract with David Jason for X number of TV films so they decided to use him again. I don't know, I cannot imagine Pratchett agreeing with Rincewind being depicted as so old when he is supposed to be scrawny and definitely younger than David Jason is.

It was noticeable that quite a few of the cast of The Hogfather were retained for The Colour Of Magic ,I agree that Nigel Planer would have been a better Rincewind and also Twoflower was too young he should have been more middle aged
Overall though it was very good and non readers of the books wouldn't have noticed what are in my opinion these minor quibbles about casting.
Regarding Pratchett not liking David Jason as Rincewind he was involved in the production at the end of the credits it did state "Messed around by Terry Pratchett"

The question is whether or not Pratchett had a say in the casting, I do not think they would have actually made the TV film without his approval and bit of meddling about.

Well, Pratchett was IN it, wasn't he?
The bearded guy in the capsule at the beginning (the one where the chain snapped) looked very like the toymaker in Hogfather... and that was Pratchett. IIRC, he also appeared at the end.

Yes that was Pratchett from what he said about The Hogfather it appeared that he was very involved in the casting and giving advice on how things should look ,with the obvious constraints of cost and feasibility of course and I don't see any reason why he shouldn't have done the same here .
