View Full Version : What could be wrong with my printer?

I have a pretty decent Canon printer/copier/fax, and it was working just fine until the last time that it ran out of ink. I've changed the ink dozens of times before and never had a problem with it but this time it won't print. Everything appears to be working fine except that the page comes out blank. I've tried 3 other cartridges and had someone else replace it in case I was doing something obviously stupid, but it still prints and copies blanks. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong with it?

It's 4 years old. If there ever was a warranty it expired a long time ago.

You don't have to run. I'm too tired to get even.

Did you remember to take those little sticky thingies off the cartridges before inserting them?

I'm not very good with things with moving parts, but I did have my housemate look at it too in case I was missing something obvious.

Are the cartridges new? Those things can dry up over time. Does your printer utility program show the old and/or new cartridges as empty?

you didnt use invisible ink cartridges by mistake?

seriously, are the cartridges recycled/refilled? Cos they seem to have a finite lifespan for usefulness when they are. We find any more than a couple fills and the lifespan starts dropping to zero pretty quickly. for some reason.

Depending on the type of printer, some print cartridges have electronics in them, and others are just ink continers hooked up to the printer.

There may be a thing called "head cleaning" you can ask it to do, but printers are often quite cheap. Get one where the ink is just a plastic thing with ink in it and all the colors are separate. :)

Probably not, although my printer is operated by a daemon.
