also stack terminology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFO). I have the dubious pleasure of occasionally using the term both ways.

Actually a stack is a LIFO structure. Oh, and BTW: the implementation on the Wikipedia page isn't exception safe. Can you spot why? ETA: Hint: What happens if the value_type assignment operator throws an exception?

FIFO = queue

The terms are used interchangeably by some, and exclusively by others. Algorithms for FIFO read of stacks/LIFO reads of queues abound.
