I'll run the next Mafia game, since there seems to be no queue.
What to people want to play?
I can make it simple or complex, and I'm open to suggestions for theme (unless people would rather a "plain" game)?

I'd like one full of paranoia, a complex one sounds good. How about everyone's a special, but no-one knows each other? That was an idea I floated for "rogue".

My last "everyone's a special" one was the infamous Lovecraft one. Are you sure you want that complex again? With time-travel, zombies, and the thing-that-would-not-die?
I'm up for it if you are...
And I'm thinking Doctor Who as a theme - loads of possibiities there...

I would like to do a mafia game. However I have never done one before. I would prefer something simple.
Also how much of a time commitment is there in playing one? I am not able to check the message boards while I am work.

Damian is scum, Jamesbannon isn't but is messing up town, Dean is being too helpful , vote Dean.
Copy&Paste that into your posts, and you too can be a mafia winner!

to make a successful mafia game, the #1 rule is keep it simple, stupid.
start with normal mafia, add a flavor theme, and maybe modify/add a couple traditional roles.
I have yet to play a game that follows this rule that isn't good, and yet to play a game that doesn't follow this rule and doesn't suck.

The trick is to reflavour the roles so they are still various permutations of the tried-and-tested ones, but the reflavouring makes them seem fresh and interesting.
That way you get the best of both worlds.
I'm in if it's Doctor Who themed. :)

Don't think I'll be able to participate for a couple more months or so, but I will submit that - IMO - we should run a few simplistic, traditional games to get everyone some experience in just playing rather than trying to navigate the fluff. Even my game was probably too complex, overall.
Get a good base of regular players going who understand what's going on and how much time they need to devote, and then move onto the twists. knowwhatimean?

I'm in, bitches.
And Monad's suggestion won't work because Oompa Loompas would own the Smurfs, because they're Oompa Loompas.

Sorry - it turns out I'm being sent away for a week on business in a week's time, so it will have to wait until I'm back.
So that will be a fortnight from now...

I put a summary in your intro thread. When the game starts there will be a summary of that game's rules and roles as well. Don't worry, no one knows what is going on their first time. I have only played one game myself and I have run one game.

But it migt still be a good idea with a sticky in the forum with some explanation of, what a mafia game is.
For a god with the powers of you that should be a piece of cake :)

Just about the only thing that will get you boo-ed or hiss-ed here is if you are a pedophile or a creationist. I am a Christian, but I am not a creationist.

what do you mean? I won both games.
they are terrible games to look to for guidance because the first one ended disastrously, and the second game was not even mafia. a rookie reading those two games would have no idea what was going on.

You were taken out by me on the first game, and you never declared your side in the second game.

i was town in game #1, and town won. Therefore I won.
the fact that you don't understand this mechanic actually explains quite a bit.

I hate it, but I am going to have to take my name off the list this time. I am in the process of moving, and finishing up my Senior Seminar at school. So, I am not sure that I will have access to a computer every day.
