That film only works in the UK
Can you provide more details for those who can't watch it?
Here (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/01/npenguin101.xml), although I'd advise you to take a look at the date. :p

Oh bother!
It's a wonderful clip made to promote BBCi. Hard to describe.
Try this link

Having fallen for 3 April Fools' jokes* this morning, I'm pleased to say I guessed from the title of the thread it was a spoof.
Still...
if you've ever seen films of penguins swimming (on one of those National Geographic or Animal Planet programs), they do fly. Only in water, rather than air.**
*I blame the fact I ran out of coffee yesterday. And that's no joke.
ETA: **I see Ray Moscow beat me to it.

Of course ... but isn't it a beautifully done spoof? Aside from the fact that watching penguins makes me smile regardless, seeing them land in the jungle was extra good.
The hopping in preparation for take-off is keeping a grin stuck on my face too.

As cool as you'd expect from people who've been pulling april fool stunts since 1957 - see this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/april/1/newsid_2819000/2819261.stm) for the classic example! :yay:

I did one of those ecotourist trips to Antarctica a few years back (on the ship that sank last December, btw).
If you like penguins, you might want to visit before the continent melts.

It's the wonderfully posh sounding announcers that the bbc do so well that get me. :D

I brought my fellow teacher, a birder, over to watch the video, telling him "did you *see* this new video of penguins that can fly!?". I managed to do it with a completely straight face, and he took the bait and swallowed it!
He watched most of the video, exclaiming "wow, we didn't see that when I took an eco-tour to Chile!", and I finally let him in on the joke. He loved it.

That was a typo!:p
I was refering to an article in the April issue of Discovery magazine several years
back.
Have to see if I can find this month's issue.

Heh. I figured as much after I googled ( btw there are no mo,les ;)) If you'd written moles though I would have figured it was a hoax, so we can actually call that a win for you. :)
Is this the article? Hotheads (http://www.udel.edu/pbl/iceborers.html)
Herre (http://blogs.nature.com/news/thegreatbeyond/2008/04/paranoia_stalks_londons_underg.html). (UK readers can view it on the BBC site, but I've linked to an embedded version others can also see. Scroll down a ways to the video.)

That's the one. I could have sworn it talked about the penguins in the ARTIC,
however. Maybe someone substituted the proper location of penguins without thinking.

Until you capitalized it I hadn't noticed. I'm doing well, aren't I?
(If it had originally said Arctic, wouldn't that have been a dead giveaway - at least for people with normal reading comprehension?)

I think it was only two or three articles afterwards that I realized it was the April issue.
Another article was on Tyrannosaurs not being able to run because if they tripped and fell they would injure themselves severly.

Heh. I'd buy that one. After all, that's a big nose and some teeny little front legs. I'd think they'd have to walk very carefully indeed. :)

I've seen more than one Discovery Channel-type show depict some variety of large theropod falling and being severely injured. With no way to break their fall and given their size, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.
