Teaching Multiplication in 1917

Okay, very simple math, but can someone explain how this circular table works?

I want to know how a color photo survived from 1917.

It's not an old photo, silly, it's an old chalkboard that hadn't been touched since 1917.

Under other old chalkboards. When the workers began removing the current chalkboards, these old ones were underneath them.

Maybe it's just a game or something, where students got some random number multiplied by some random number, and were expected to work it out.

I RTFA and Lies!
Not 100 years old...

Under god was added in 1954,

1954-2015 it is not 100's of years I call shenanigans.
In its original form it read:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1923, the words, "the Flag of the United States of America" were added. At this time it read:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
1917

The "1917" wording looks false. Snopes

Calm down bob - other people did question this, but believe it or not, Americans before 1954 occasionally mentioned god when romanticising about the flag and loyalty, especially to kids. There were a few different versions.

I searched for "I give my head, my heart and my life to god and my country".

No exact matches but it did find an Ohio educational book from 1917 January, 1918 with something similar.

Change life to health and add hand, and it's closer to the 4H pledge.
It might not be a version of THE Pledge of Allegiance.
It could be a state pledge.

Yeah, this book just calls it a "Flag Salute For Primary Children", not "The Pledge" or anything similar.

I scrolled back one page and did the Arithmetic problem on the left side.

Either I'm way out of practice with algebra, my brain was shot this morning, or that problem is more complicated than it sounds. Took me three attempts, each attempt taking a full sheet of paper before I got it right.

And I can't follow the solution they give.

Yeah that one. I got it right (finally) then looked at their solution and well I guess I kinda sorta follow it, but it's not the way I learned to do algebra word problems.

It could even be something one of the teachers cobbled together, even inspired by the 4H pledge.

Me either. I got the solution, but my sequence of steps made more sense to me than theirs.

Worth of Farm A X 4/5 = Selling Price
Worth of Farm B X 6/5 = Selling Price

Worth of Farm A = Selling Price X 5/4
Worth of Farm B = Selling Price X 5/6

Worth of Farm A + Worth of Farm B = Selling Price X (5/4 + 5/6) = Selling Price X 25/12

Selling Price X 2 - Selling Price X 25/12 = Selling Price X -1/12 = -20$ = loss

Selling Price = 240$

A man sells two farms for the same price; on the first he gains 20% and on the second he loses 20% in the aggregate losing $20; what did each farm cost?
