Texas Lynn vs Lion IRC Debate Peanut Gallery

From here - Texas Lynn proposed to Lion IRC and he accepted.

Since the debate is about to commence, I wont be posting any further debate-related comments either here in the Peanut Gallery thread or elsewhere around the forum until after the debate concludes.

It's all about breastfeeding. You'll love it.

I propose a series of debates or one indefinite debate on a large variety of subjects with LionIRC.

eta: I'm tempted to cast my vote now.

The Rat Ring? What is it, 2009?

Come to think of it, I'm surprised Schneibster hasn't challenged anyone to a Rat Ring duel yet. Maybe he just forgot about this subforum?

No, just taking the piss out of one of Lion IRC's arguments. It was a bit of a cliche in one of the other threads.

Well, it's been closed and hidden for years, and the old threads tucked away under The Charred Remains. I just reopened it all.

Meanwhile, Schneibster's been permabanned.

Lion forgot to mention the historical aspect - marriage initially was an institution to guarantee political and/or economical advantages for the concerned families, e.g. political alliances or wealth (nobody thought of luurrrve). That's why society created laws to regulate marriage.

Pretty weak opening posts from both parties, IMO.

BTW, I find it amusing that Lion IRC is huffing and puffing about bringing God into the debate, when he's trying to win a debate on a board full of atheists. Even if Texas Lynn is a Christian hardly anyone else here is, so bringing up God will do nothing to convince the target audience of Lion's arguments. In fact, it'll most likely weaken his position. He'd be better off leaving the whole God thing out.

Funny thing is, all the points Lion used to praise hetero marriages go for lesbian and gay marriages as well.

Just reading Lynn's OP again. She doesn't actually give any compelling argument for SSM. There's basically just a sentence at the end that asserts it's the right thing to do, but it's not much of an argument if your aim is to convince someone who is on the fence, or who is against SSM but amenable to argument.

Now personally I'm fine with SSM, and would be happy to see it in all jurisdictions simply on the basis that people want it and there are no good arguments against it that I can see. So, Lynn doesn't have to convince me and Lion does. However, if I wasn't already onside with SSM I think I'd be wanting a lot more from an OP before I even took notice.

---------------------------------

Lion has somehow gotten away with two posts in a row. Dunno how that works (might have missed something in the rules) but whatever.

His first post doesn't do him any good, because although he makes the point that some people should not be allowed to marry (axe-murdering paedos would probably be a good example) he doesn't really say anything about why SSM per se should not be allowed.

His second post just appears to be off the wall ranting, with threats of divine retribution thrown in for added popcorn value. Fucked if I know what the point of all that is.

Well, Lion IRL already spoke in favour of marriage, there was not much left to say besides mentioning human rights.

I appreciated to learn more about the practical consequences of different treatment of partnerships and marriages.

There's a software glitch we are trying to sort out - that's why Lion has two posts instead of one.

This debate looks like its heading for a draw, I propose that the participants immediately engage in a second debate after this one amd devote all of their posting attention to its resolution.

By fuckery, now the silly bugger is claiming God is on his side, and even advocating Pascal's Wager as a good thing. Lynn would have to work really hard to do worse than that.

That was a shitload of bad arguments. Lion's expecting TL to miss one and then he will keep pounding on the one she missed.
