I haven't decided about running for my vacated admin spot. if nothing else it's a way to personally support the idea of fixed terms. I'v been in favor of the idea since it first came up in 2009.

we also need to reevaluate the number of admins. having 3 makes it more difficult to do stand downs, which is a factor in short tempers, indecisiveness, shoot from the hip decisions, and other issues with how admins do their jobs.

earlier, I think I said 3 is probably enough. It isn't.

from a coverage perspective, 4 is good. from a diversity perspective it seems to work, too. when we had 6 admins after the reboot, it seemed like there was a bit more tendency toward polarization and less tendency to hash out solutions. I think that's part of the reason we lost several admins so quickly in that timeframe.

I picked January 31 because it's well after the holidays. In past years, the climate has been fairly settled by then. I like Feb 2 better, though.

I thought it was Groundhog Day? Maybe that is February 22? I know all that can be hard and I never seen it done as it seems to be done here. Can't blame you for just wanting to be a member.

we'll probably start one around the middle of jan. American politics might be able to cope with six months of campaigning, but election fatigue is something best avoided.

Not officially, no. sometimes a member jumps the gun and we use that thread as a forum mod nomination thread.

The admin nomination/election process is well defined, though. We'll follow that process in January.
