I'm kind of opposed to these dog shows in general. From what I read it kind of encourages "pure" breeding, which encourages breeders to inbreed, which causes health problems. From what I understand inbreeding is common.
I had a AKC purebred Pomeranian. She had a Tracheal collapse problem; seemed like a cough that she would just have from time to time. Also would happen when she barked. The vet said it was from her windpipe closing on itself; she had a tiny throat. I found out that basically the Pom was bred down so small to look "cute". Their necks and Trachea aren't supposed to be that small, but breeders kept breeding the size down, smaller and smaller, without caring about the side effects. She had a knee problem also, which is common. :

There's no reason for average people to buy full-breed dogs unless they're going to show it, or breed it. Yet people do all the time.
