Dammit. I went and spent my 4 nominees on country. And I don't like country! Since Chet was already there I added Segovia for someone else (I couldn't find Sor on youtube ) and Charo because She absolutely blew me away in Vegas. Of course,.. er. Never mind.

But Roy Clark and Doc Watson are 2 of the all time greats (along with chet).

Raitt? She's a good player, maybe better than me but not in the same league as the others on the list..

How the hell do Paisley or Raitt qualify as good guitarists? I'd sooner put someone like Kevin Cadogan in there before some no-talent country ass-clowns.
To tell the truth I hear Paisley (mostly from guitar magazines) is technically on par with guys like Dimeola and Morse but I have never been able to listen through his country songs long enough to get to the lead break.

I'll ask around some guitar forums for a good video and let the posters decide on whether he should be included.

actually I shouldn't have limited you to four, four just seemed to be what everyone else was adding on, my apologies. You can take any of my nominees except Morse and Montgomery.

Are we set to go? If I don't hear of any changes by 12:00 am Eastern I think we should go with the list as it is.

Just go with it. Some of those match ups are going to skew the top 10 though. Maybe they should be initially put into a general vote for top 10 or 20 first?

Yeah I know my fave Steve Morse looks like he will be going out in the first round due to the group he is in.

How do you mean general vote for top 10 or 20?

Well, I thought maybe the first 2 rounds of voting ought to be the 2 that lose from each and then reorganize the losers to keep maybe 5 or 10 to put back into the list again? WHat do you think?

I'll have to run that by the commissioner of six string Matty.

Comfortably Numb

Interview with Jimmy Page from RollingStone com.

:
Every song you played at Led Zeppelin's reunion show in London last year started with or was based on a killer riff. What makes a great Zeppelin riff?
It is something you know instinctively. It has energy and attitude. There's sex in it as well. It was definitely my concept to have a riff-based band. My influences were the riff-based blues coming from Chicago in the Fifties — Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Billy Boy Arnold records. "Boogie Chillen'," by John Lee Hooker — that is a riff. But you take it, absorb it and apply your own character, so it comes out another way.

How did they manage that?

Well I would have put more jazz guitarists on there but Morse, Dimeola, Montgomery, Metheny etc. are excellent representatives of the genre.

Huh? I would stack Morse, Dimeola, Montgomery and Metheny against any guitarist not just jazz guitarists as the best.

Okay we couldn't fit everone in, I would have liked Holdsworth in but Matty and I didn't want to monopolize the process. I am sure everyone has a guitarist that didn't make it in that they would have like in.

Michael Hedges is also missing, I would have also put in John Petrucci.

I mean compared to Benson, Ackermann, and Holdsworth. Personally I don't like Dimeola or Methany that much - they are technically skilled but I can't think of anything they did on their own I really enjoy whereas Benson contributed to some of the greatest sets in jazz history.

My favourite guitarist is Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine; he did things with his guitar that no one else has.

A much underrated guitarist is Nils Lofgren. I went to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on Friday and it was an excellent reminder of how talented Nils is.

Hey guys, I agree with all the previous posts, all were worthy of being on the list but nominations were on a first come first serve.

There are a few on the list I would replace with Paul and Atkins myself.

Me, too.

Unless I've missed something, Richard Thompson isn't there, either.

Or Rory, as someone else said.

But we've got a list, and maybe we should run with out now, else we might never start.
