eh, dawkins does do a lot of debating against creationism. even if you think the athevangelism thing is gay or hopeless, hopefully you'd agree that arguing with creationism needs to be done. especially with the creationists openly planning to "outlast" the "evolutionists". they keep losing in court, but if they get enough of their kind of people as judges, that may not last. so it really does matter who's winning the public debate.

imho "the public debate" doesn't really hinge on some smarmy brit's book sales or his shit website.

The rationalscepticism site members are really revelling in the events. A lot of the same guys would have flown into a fury at any criticism of Pope Dawkins (PBUH) in the not so distant future. I recall having posts deleted on the RD forum for mild commentary about Dawkins' obvious narcissism.

My guess is that he is feeling rather less smarmy today. This case punctures his reputation in a big way. His judgement is shown to be flawed, and the oversight of the finances of his foundation seems shockingly remiss.

Regarding their finances, why would anyone in their right mind contribute to an organisation where a young webmaster is being paid $90+ per annum? Surely the idea with charities is that your staff overheads are cut to the bone?

The whole RDF is clearly a vanity project for Dawkins and was never anything else.

Yep, though it wasn't just for Pope Dawkins, but all the apostles. The first threads critical of RRS were the same shit, and people criticizing the RRS were accused of being covert theists, because WHY ELSE WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ATTACKING ROOK AND BRIAN, WHO FIGHT FOR REASON!?!? Then the critics were threatened with bans for making completely appropriate "what are your crimes" retorts about this scientology-esque behavior. That was a violation of the terms of service, clearly, because the locals support REASON and therefore can't act like scientologists or fundies.

I think the answer to that very much depends on who you ask. If Quine didn't say much about it but he was an atheist, then I like him.
