mafia vote bbcodes

In an effort to standardize votes and make them easier to count, I've created some new bbcodes: [v] and [uv]. Just put the votee's name between the codes and the appropriate text and formatting will happen automatically.

##unvote Luis Garcia## [uv]Luis Garcia[/uv]

I can make mayor vote/unvote bbcodes, too. But step one is to see if people will use these codes.

I'm thinking these codes would really simplify things for phoneposting, and would also make it easy for the GMs to search threads for votes.

now what would really be nice is if someone wrote something to count the votes automatically. the algorithm would be trivial. hell, i'd be willing to do it.

the only question is whether we can make the function part of the board, so whoever's gm'ing could just use it, without having to download some application to their computer. i have no idea whether we could do that, or how you'd go about it.

It's not hard to automatically parse votes that can be assumed to conform to a rigid format, but the complication is that you'd probably want to be able to handle misspelled names, old votes reappearing in broken quote tags, etc. in a sensible way.

It would be feasible to automate almost the entire process of counting if e.g. votes were indicated in separate posts that contained no other text (or at least no quote tags), or if votes that appeared in posts with broken tags could be considered invalid. However, it would probably still require some human supervision at some stage to deal with votes such as

and it wouldn't help with bad spelling.

the gm could look out for names mis-spelled in votes, or broken tags, and could go correct them before checking the vote tally. also, if the players are aware of the the issues, they could bring stuff like that to the gm's attention. i could see that arrangement working fairly reliably.

that is awesome. it would be ideal for these purposes, and i actually think people would appreciate it it in general. no one likes broken tags, and they always go back and fix them when they're aware of the problem.
