The Windows 10 Upgrade virus.

I have one computer running Win 8.1 and another running Win 7. Both are too old [not enough memory or speed to run Windows X].
Apart from going to the M$ website and comparing Win X system requirements with the specs of my two computers, I have actually tried to upgrade both if only to get rid of the annoying appearance of the Win X upgrade icon.
So I fired up Task manager and stopped the GWX.exe program from running, then I dug down to the guts and re-named GWX.exe and friends in the Windows system folder.
But it still comes back. It would be a wonderful idea if the user could nominate certain programs as malware, and the anti-virus proggie deletes any downloads.
Jesus Christ I hate push technology that one cannot control.

Any ideas?

I can't really remember what I did but I eventually got it to work. I know at least one part of the process was removing the KB3035583 update and telling Windows not to install it again, but I don't remember the details. I found this link in my bookmarks so I might have done what they say here: http://malwareprotectioncenter.com/2...et-windows-10/

Also after a little bit of googling I found this GWX Control Panel program being mentioned often.

One thing I don't see right now is the instruction on how to delete the Win10 files that have already been downloaded. Seems like I did that too. Good luck.

Thanks very much for that.

As for deleting the GWX files already downloaded:

1. Use task manager to end the process.
2. Rename the files.
3. delete the files.
