I consider TR as community space.

Is this a correct determination?

TR appears to be a site especially for atheists and "freethinkers"; there is a good amount of religious people who fee quite at home here too.
TR: We encourage thought, you will not be protected from other's thoughts.

Is that about right?...

Free roam for members of the community within the constrains that the community applies.

I'm not sure how a message board could be anything else unless it maintains different classes of users with different levels of access.

TR doesn't do that.

TR is a space provided for a community, though. There's a veritable web of atheist, freethinking, secular activism, and religious forums. Many, if not most TR members also participate on some of the related message boards. Some of us left one site or another either voluntarily or involuntarily. TR was started with the intention of helping make a home for any members of the larger, dispersed community who were looking for alternate or additional homes.

To me, one of the principles that guides TR's growth as a community is that if someone thinks they belong here, they should be able to post here. It's not something we can 100% guarantee, of course because sometimes people do stuff online that defy the imagination.

But, suspensions are extremely rare, and "permanent" bans have a habit of being rescinded.

I wouldn't advertise that permanent bans don't take, outside of that, You have relayed the correct ideas imo, we just need a concise form for the ideas.

Insults are allowed on TR except in the friendly forum areas. Those insults or flames in the friendly areas will just cause the post to be moved most likely to the compost heap forum.(which is the correct place to continue that line of conversation)
(fixed)

:
The movement of posts and/or threads is not a punishment.
Is too. We must recognize that the many people do see that a movement of their creation is a punishment are retarded.
Altering people's posts when quoting them is not an attempt to be dishonest or ascribe those views to them. It is funny, and can be used creatively to make points.

I've never figured out specifically how it happens. It just happens somewhere in the exchange of words and ideas.

Why would there be a need? The sandstorms would scour away muddy thinking.

Well, this is not exactly true. There are areas that only a certain class of members can access.

You are correct. there are forums that not all members have access to.

- Post reports: accessible to the reporter and to mods and admins

- The Floor is Yours: Can be read by anyone; posts restricted to the OPer and to mods and admins

- Appeals: When this forum is active (which isn't often), it can be read by anyone, and posts are restricted to the appellant, appeals committee, mods, and admins. In practice one admin will directly participate in an appeal

- Staff Forum: can be read by anyone; posts are restricted to mods and admins

- Mod Workshop: A forum for practicing with the mod buttons and occasionally starting OPs for serial/continuing threads

- Sysadmin Forum: Accessible to sysadmins only. Used for documenting hacks and modifications.

There are some old forums that have been archived, too. Including the old private staff forum
