i'm not going to follow this particular thread too much, but within the context of your post, "my TR," came off as you exerting some imaginary ownership different from when a couple refers to "our song." you don't have 'your' TR. you post at TR with a bunch of other people. that's all.

Voting to recall a mod because he/she is a "meanie" even though the mod has not violated the rules nor the ethos of TR is fucking stupid. But that rationale coming from a mod/adm who lost her positions because she was "a meanie" is the epitome of hypocrisy.

I voted to recall damian because he is a meanie, pretty simple. Not because he's mean to me, but because he's mean to nearly everyone. TR makes a big deal about moderators only being regular people, and not having any real authority - basically just post monkeys. But that's not how it works in any other forum I've ever seen or heard about. In nearly every other forum on the interwebs, the staff governs how people behave on the site. And realistically, that will happen here too - how staff acts, how they interact with posters, sets the tone for what is acceptable behavior across the board. They are the model of how people are expected to act, whether they want to be or not. Any n00bs coming in will look to the general behavior of regular posters... but will also look to the behavior of staff, and they will model themselves after that.

I don't like damian's behavior. I don't want him to be the de-facto model for n00bs, nor for old hats. Damian isn't how I want my TR to be.

Not at all. "My country", "my family", "my school", these are all perfectly normal and commonplace phrases, and hardly anyone ever misinterprets them in the way you're twisting them now.

I understand what people mean when they say "my country," "my family" and whatever else. Tying this back to Pandora, in the context of her post, "my TR" didn't seem like the same as her saying "my country." But, whatever. That's a dumb tangent.

Whether "my country" is a dumb phrase or not is an interesting discussion. I think it's a dumb, individualistic phrase, that has no useful place in a discussion about a democracy, which is why I said "my country" only makes sense to say if you're a dictator. It also, I'm realizing, probably only makes a bit more sense if you're in a discussion with someone else who has no relation to the country you live in. Aside from that "My land", "my house", "my tools", "my children" make sense because they imply a sense of individual legal or financial ownership or stewardship. Otherwise, if you're talking to or addressing someone from your milieu (like Pandora was) it is our country, our school, our family. Related, our TR or just "TR".

when making neutral declarations, this is correct. when making normative statements of preference, however, this imparts a connotation of personal possessiveness lacking in the former case.

saying "everyone at my school is on drugs" is connotatively different from "a whole student body on drugs is not what i want for my school."

eta: this is even more pronounced when we're talking about specific rather than general objects, e.g., saying "my country" rings very very differently from saying "my america" even absent any context. saying "my Tr" is analogous to the latter.

For all intensive purposes he's a vegetarian, even though he eats fish. Maybe he could have a nice expresso and make it a mute point. He could also wet his appetite and avoid hunger pains. At least he's not bias against being at your beckon call.
