Jewish inactivism
Interesting, I never even knew this was a thing.

Which suggests to me that it really doesn't matter. People have been getting along just fine with and without foreskins for a very long time. It's one of those things some people get really worked up about for no good reason at all.

my impression was that in the 60s and 70s, the prevailing opinion in the medical community in the US was that it was beneficial or even necessary, but that, as it was studied more through the 80s and 90s, they moved toward the conclusion that its effects were mixed and overall something close to neutral. and given that the effects are roughly neutral, I think that shifts the ethical argument decisively against cutting off pieces of babies' genitals.

Based on my google skimming after a friend posted this on FB, the health benefits are mainly with preventing STDs and UTIs. But it's fairly marginal and UTIs can be treated easily and STDs aren't really a big thing with kids (at least where the foreskin would come into play).
eta Also I'm thinking a little lesson in washing your junk might tend to erase those numbers a bit.

It's not misspelled. Inactivism seems to be a movement to not circumcise. Unfortunately this has just turned into the standard pros and cons argument.

Your title is missing a t. Inactivism is when you wear one of them rubber bracelet thingies to pretend you are helping cancer sufferers.

Inactivism is when ya dont do nothin about nothin, ya just sit there, inactive. Intactivisism is when ya attach bricks to yer dicks to stretch the skin out so ya can regrow a foreskin down there, if yers got chopped. |
