There was a post you wrote at IIDB, Rex, about ocean waves, which absolutely hit the spot for me, I don't know if you remember it. But you might recognise the idea in this:

My father saw it, and made CDs of it for each of his children. For him it summed up how he thought about life and death and he really wanted us to know. We used some quotes from it at his funeral. I think you'd like it.
Well, now that you mention it I do recall you liking one of my posts about waves.

Yes, I do like the film. I have long understood that everything is waves of one sort or another. And it appears that even the so called medium through which one wave travels is itself waves of another kind, of another time scale.

Are you trying to get me philosophizing again?
heh.

Hey Rex.

The way I remember it, we first met at IIDB, in one of the let's-all-pick-on-Febble threads.

I can't remember what it was that you said, but at one point I responded to you with something like this (I'm going from distant memory here):
:
I don't know whether you're just spouting nonsense or you're saying something brilliant that's just too deep for me to understand, but I thank you for saying it anyway.
Do you remember what that was about, roughly? I don't, at all.
No, I don't recall what it was I said there. Sorry. I hope it was brilliant, but I seldom say brilliant things.

What ever became of IIDB and all the archives?
It's still archived I think.

I downloaded one or two of those threads. I'll see if I can find the post.

I have no idea how to find the old IIDB posts.

borealis is a huge bronze combat-robot who often wields a battleaxe, and identifies as female.

I've met borealis IRL.

At least some of the statements in this post are true.

Ok, yall, the men in charge of the IIDB done sold the forum, its contents, and its name, to an Aussie chick named Jo after gettin titty pics from her. Jo done changed its name twice, then deleted the entire thing off the internet. It aint on the WayBack Machine 'cause RayJ done disabled robots.txt. So there aint no record of the IIDB ever existin, 'cause the men on the Internet Infidels Inc felt it best to dismantle the thrivin community and pretend that ol Clark Adams (rest his ashes) never even lived.

Bro D's link is as dead as Clark Adams, thanks to RayJ and Jo.

So I have a question. How is it possible for otherwise intelligent people to believe in religion and other irrational stuff?

I think the answer could be emotional immaturity. Such a person is physically and intellectually mature lacking only emotional maturity.

Does anyone agree?

You'll have to open a thread in the Theology forum.

I remember you from the start of TR. I was one of the Dave Hawkins crowd that wandered in after the Rants&Raves meltdown.

No, I don't think so. I second Pingu's suggestion though, if you'd like to discuss the issue.

Plenty of religious believers are very likely emotionally immature, but I suspect the same proportion of non-believers are equally emotionally immature.

heh, tell me about it. Once I made a comment that was too much like a politician comment (to be fair even I was appalled by it) and RexT pretty much exploded, lol. I don't think he liked me after that!

All's forgiven though! At least from my side.

oh yeah, Epiphany on this forum iirc. I thought she was NZ.

I still hold myself responsible for letting her get a foot in the door, though I like to think that I absolved myself a little by leaking stuff via Nialler during the IIDebacle.

Surely LPetrich has a copy of the database?
