Did they make parries easier or harder?

Harder.

eta: But I've never been good at parrying anyway. They also may have made it so you need a smaller shield to more reliably pull off a parry.

Oh, do you know the trick to seeing if a chest is a mimic or not?

Trick 1: the chain on your right is pointed towards you instead of curled up away from you.

Trick 2: watch it close enough and you can see the mimic chest breathing.

I've never been good at parrying either. Sure, "practice, it'll get better". I end up feeling like it's more "practice, you'll die just that more often".

Ah well. If they've made it harder, at least I don't have to waste time trying to figure out the specific timing for parrying and can just block and look for a chance to whack the baddie.

Nope. This will wreck you.

Might want to watch a few videos. There are tons of them on YouTube.

Ok, I should have specified "tricks to tell whether it's a mimic or not without getting your face eaten."

When I get enough guts to give it a go, I will. Right now I'll stick with something easy and pretty.

WTF? It wasn't hard enough before without carnivorous chests added to the mix?

Mimics have been around since Dark Souls.

Yeah, but the first one you find is in Sen's Fortress. It sounds like she never got that far.

Nope, I didn't make it that far I got fed up at the Capra demon and never got around to going back.

Which bosses did you kill before getting to the Capra demon?

These games all seem terrible, it's like ghost n goblins and battle toads spilled their seed in a modern console and had a baby

Not many... I think I only got the Taurus demon and the Bell gargoyles. Can't remember for sure though. Seriously, I got much farther with DS2 than with DS1.

I liked playing a sorceror in Demon's Souls, that worked well for me and was very effective throughout the game. DS didn't quite work the same though, and I kind of think that the sorceror is maybe not the ideal n00b character to play. I got tired of dying... but I also got tired of the incredibly grueling transits to get back to Firelink Shrine or other previously visited locations in Undead Burg/Parish.

Thinking back on it, I don't think I gave it much of a chance. I bought DS & DS2 at the same time. DS was hard so I started DS2 instead. At first it seemed easier, and I killed a lot more guys... but I kind of screwed it up. I couldn't kill the stupid Pursuer to get his shield, and I couldn't make it past the Ruin Sentinels so I kind of had a bit of a temper tantrum .

So I quit and played Dragon Age instead because, hey, I can set that to "wussie" level.

The Ruin Sentinels are legit fucking ridiculous. One of the shittiest, most frustrating bosses in any of the Souls games.

Yeah, and there's no alternative. You can't get to the next areas without going through them. They're a stupid-hard bottleneck.

That was one of the things I didn't like about DS2. In Demon's and DS1, you could go to other areas, in whatever order you wanted. It might not be a good idea... but it could be done. So when I couldn't make it past the first stage of the Shrine of Storms, I could just go somewhere else.

DS2 was pretty linear. There was a way around the Pursuer, but it really seemed like the rest of it was really linear. Could be I'm misremembering though.

I've only beaten DaS2 so far. I'm nearly done with Bloodbourne (I'm up to Micolash the cagehead dude) and I'm getting near the end of DaS (I got the Lord Vessel and have to get the Lord souls). I think I'm in the last half of Demon's souls as well.

I'm great at starting these dumb games but not so good at actually finishing them.

I remember the Ruin Sentinels now. They were pretty hard because there were three of them and they were kind of fast with ridiculous reach. But, like most bosses, you just keep banging your head away at them until you get through them.

Also, Sorcerer is generally considered easy mode in the Souls games . . . except for DaS3 where for some reason there's some reverse scaling going on and you don't get much benefit out of Int or Faith until you go past 40.

Sorcerer/Cleric may be a good NG+ path to go maybe after you've farmed those stats up.

You can skip them. Look it up in the wiki.

IIRC you can skip them if you can make it past the stupid Pursuer!

Okay, I don't feel too bad now. I finished Demon's Souls. I even finished it on NG+

Just not really so much progress for the others

He's an asshole. But not as bad as the Ruin Sentinels, I think. If only because there are three of those fuckers.
