political news resources thread
this is so dub, ST, et al. never again suffer the embarassment of posting a story we all read yesterday
collections of breaking stories: taegan goddard's political wire liberal tilt in terms of focus, but very current. realclearpolitics (news, polls, electoral college map, and more) IMO, the site has a slight conservative tilt, but is very current and comprehensive "news": msnbc - DNC propaganda fox - RNC propaganda cnn - infotainment that manages to be neither informative nor entertaining; accused of having a liberal slant bloomberg - financial hot air, owned by guy who banned soda, but reasonably neutral on non-financial stories NYT - paper with decent reporting, and liberal op-ed page WSJ - paper that used to have decent reporting and a conservative op-ed page, but which murdoch is turning into a right-wing tabloid pbs newshour - an actual fucking news organization that actually obeys widely-recognized journalistic standards npr - another real news organzation, which for some reason has been branded liberal propaganda the best news source in america another great news source oh nigel.... I DISAGREE the torrygraph don't have a joke for this one poll and electoral college tallies: http://www.electoral-vote.com/ (left-leaning) http://www.electionprojection.com/index.php (right-leaning) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ (slightly right-leaning) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/pollster/ (left-leaning, IME slow to update) misc: an excellent tracker for campaign spending and ads tallies who has how much money and where they're spending it, whether the ad is positive or negative ad, etc.; has a nifty map and several lists and charts unemployment rate stock market price of gas Last edited by el jefe; 07-24-2012 at 04:34 PM. |

Well, for the purpose of preventing people from reposting stories anyway

The purpose of a web forum is not to "post stories". It is to have discussions on those stories. Sometimes even stories as ancient as yesterday.
Did I miss an actual conversation about that story?

a few more
political news focused
politico - used to have a reputation as center-right, but reasonable. then it reported about the numerous sexual harassment complaints against herman cain, and republicans decided the paper was a liberal rag making up smears about cain to derail his candidacy. when the accusations turned out to be true, or at least years old and coming from real people, politico didn't get their old reputation back. the hill - quality is sometimes marginal, but has lots of stories and is pretty current rollcall - i don't read it much, but it looks comparable to the hill |

votesmart.org has a lot of useful information
for example, here you can look up a given politician's ratings by every special interest group, for all time |

Let's have a Mod war but first give everyone mod status.
It'll be fun, just try it and see.

attention everybody -
i need to be given emergency mod powers in order to deal with this new and dangerous threat. i assure everyone that this is only a temporary measure, and that i will not abuse this power, nor use it to consolidate my position once it is granted. i can understand any concerns people may have about risks this may pose to TR's constitutional system of government, but ask yourself this: what good is freedom if you're dead? when TR is destroyed and many innocent people have been killed because you wouldn't grant me these powers, what will you tell the survivors? why do you hate TR? why do you hate freedom? |

Insideautomotive.com is by far the best one I've found. He's a local guy with a Saturday morning talk show about cars, but also does a 30 minutes history segment call "Backside of American history" that covers little known stories from history most people don't know. They can be downloaded in pdf form from a google search. Great reading. Also covers politics, news, oil, transportation, history of music, ect.
He updates the site twice a day with the top stories from around the world from several dozen international news sites. No bias, doesn't vote, has disdain for both parties. And a degree in journalism. and history |
