Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse
As usual, Trump is blaming Obama for everything, and lying into the bargain.
The decision to move the embassy was made during the Bush 2 administration.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Heinz:
you have had at least seven years to prove your theory, yet still you sit on your ass and expect other people to do it for you.
Your theory- get off your lazy ass and do your own bit of research for once.
I'm not holding my breath, and I really hope Tom does take some high frame rate videos, just to see what pathetic excuses you come up with.

The Department for Work and Pensions assessors have just declared her fit for work.

I'm worried about the extinction of one species.
Homo sapiens.

He has, however, been clutching at straws for more than a few years.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Dream on, Hopalong.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Yep; the cart is experiencing still air,  whilst running at speed over a surface.
Exactly like the full size Blackbird running downwind at wind speed.
In both cases, there is relative movement between the air and a surface.
Something your tiny brain is unable to grasp after 10 years or so.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Three simple questions, Hopalong:
1: An ant is clinging to the treadmill surface. Does he notice a wind?
2: If he holds up a little toy windmill, will it rotate?
3: Is the energy causing that rotation coming from the still air in the room?

It is certainly a laugh, Heinz.
Keep it going; you might notch up another seven years of amusing us.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Which everyone will get except Heinz.....

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
The ant would be too busy hopping and losing traction to worry about the lack of breeze!
Thanks for today's laugh, Heinz-  nearly spilled coffee over the keyboard.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
The Blackbird at wind speed could also be considered as collecting energy from the ground and not the air.
What our dumb friend fails to realise is the power is being obtained by harnessing the movement of air in relation to the ground;  the two cases ARE identical.
Why can't he accept that air moving over ground, and ground moving under air are identical set-ups?
Does his runner in the picture think that the part of the treadmill he is on is doing anything other than moving uniformly in a straight line?
If Hopalong ever did any sailing, he would know that, at sea in light airs, it is impossible to know whether you are in still water experiencing a light breeze, or in a tidal current under still air. (Humber of course claimed he could, by jumping up and down!)
An ant on a long smooth treadmill would not know whether the breeze he felt was due to the wind over the ground or the ground moving under the air, or even a combination of both.
Could he tell by jumping up and down, Heinz?

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
 Funny how early on Spork's big cart was placed on a rotating roller in still air, and tried to move forward.
And it would do the same if placed on a large enough treadmill.
Yet in Hopalong Heinz's universe, the treadmill carts and the Blackbird are supposed to work  entirely differently.

Found one single AAPT physics teacher that agrees with your vibration hypothesis, Heinz?

Thought not.
I wonder why.

Like a broken record Toby, Got anything else? Maybe after the HFR video is made the AAPT will be interested in correcting their mistake of being fooled by a gang of crackpots at DTU during the physics olympiad.
Why bother with us cargo cult lunatics then?
Go straight to the AAPT, and correct things.

Yeah, right, Mr Chicken!

Heinz: do you really think anyone here is panicking?
Or even the tiniest teeniest bit worried?

Truth is, we are all sitting back,  chuckling at you.
But do keep the comedy show running.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Please go for it, Tom- we look forward for Henz's excuses of why you did it all wrong!

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Good luck with making a cart, but whatever you do, you will NEVER convince Hopalong Heinz.
19
Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Hopalong Heinz seems to be risking repetitive strain (brain?) injury today.

Here's a simple challenge for you, Heinz, no cart or video needed:
Convince ONE single member of the American Association of Physics Teachers that you have a plausible theory.
Surely the cargo cult carteers can't have hoodwinked the entire profession?

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
I'm a little curious about the idea that the cart on the treadmill "loosing traction" somehow allows it to appear to be working when it really isn't, or however that argument goes. I don't quite follow the rationale behind that.

No one follows the rationale behind that, including the guy that makes the claim.  By all means you should have a discussion with "Heinz" and see if you can work it out.  I'm nearly certain you will quickly conclude that it's total nonsense that's not even internally consistent.  But maybe you'll be the very first one that's ever joined in and made sense of Heinz after 10 years or so.

By the way, Heinz will treat you like a gentleman and a scholar as long as he thinks you have a chance of believing his claim that the cart is a hoax, and will start calling you an idiot and a sack of shit as soon as it begins to be clear that you're not buying it.

That said, we can offer you our explanations of how and why the cart actually does work.  If I recall correctly, every single person that has come along ultimately accepts that our explanation makes sense.  I predict that pattern will hold.

JDuffy: Why do I see people using "loose" when they mean to use "lose"?
Dunno.  But it's astonishingly common.

Sporky is worried.

Hey Sporky, since you "demand" to see a HFR video of the cart on the treadmill, why don't you make one and post it?

You GUTLESS fake!
Your theory- you prove it, you lazy gutless fake
And if you really think Spork or any of us are worried, you are even dimmer than I thought.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
I remember offering my cart to one of the H's- probably Humber; for some reason he didn't want it.
22
Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Not by us, surely? maybe his mum?
23
Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Heinz- you have a theory- why are you unable to arrange a video of  a cart of your own on a treadmill?
No guts?
Do you really expect others to do the work for you?
If you are so convinced, get off your ass and do it! Surely not impossible for a chap of your intellect?

We look forward in eager anticipation to seeing your convincing video.

Science / Re: Direct Down Wind Faster Than The Wind
Getting lonely again out there, Heinz?

After around seven years, have you convinced a single person about your breaking traction theory?

No?
I wonder why.

But do keep trying- we need the comedy!
