Links or it didn't happen Clastie.

I provided the link to the celebration above.
2
I am unable to travel to Manchester in February.
Can I purchase your book on Amazon?

Yes. Not "Gorillas in the Mist", "Atheist in the Mist".

Ok.
Would you give me a preview of your book?
Something to stimulate my interest ...

Quote the one sentence (that you wrote in the book) that you are most proud of.

It's ok if the one stand-alone sentence seems disjointed.

From page 74:

"Atheists have this smarter-than-thou attitude that really annoys believers. But for all of this..........END OF PREVIEW"

inB4 "it's missing"

Good things come to those who wait. Evolution is a gradual process.

I couldn't find it on Amazon. Do you have a link?
There will also be a dinner with yours truly with tickets starting at £20.
What's the menu?

Starter: Primordial soup with croutons.
Main course:  Fillet of Tiktaalik sauteed in onions.
Dessert:  Lucy mud pie.

Alternative Reality Science Extravaganza / Darwin Day!

Christmas is over, but Darwimas is right around the corner!

If you just happen to be in Manchester UK, there is an event on to celebrate the great day: "HUMAN EVOLUTION: from Australopithecus to Archaeological Science" https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/darwin-day-celebration-2018-tickets-41679270821

After the event, I will doing a book signing for my latest publication, "Atheists in the Mist: the death throes of non-belief". There will also be a dinner with yours truly with tickets starting at £20.  So, what are you waiting for?

Science / Re: Piggies really are quasi-primates
Anyway, its 2017, Joe.  You don't need to propose nonsense like polyphyly as a rationalization for why you find farm animals so goddamned sexy.  Let your freak flag fly!

I see no reason why pigs could be a special case...a hybid between cows and monkeys.

Science / Re: Piggies really are quasi-primates

The evolutionists insist on monophyly.  The data suggest polyphyly.

Science / Piggies really are quasi-primates

A few years back, I claimed that my own research showed that pigs were unlike their artiodactylan cousins and more like primates. I was riducled on this very site for making such a bold claim.  I am pleased to my scientific peers have confirmed my findings.

We  identified  and  characterized  a  free  PRE-1  element  inserted  into  the  promoter  region  of  the
porcine  IGFBP7 gene  whose  integration  mechanisms  into  the  genome,  including  copy  number,
distribution  preferences,  capacity  to  exonize  and  phyloclustering  pattern  are  similar  to  that  of  the
primate  Alu  element.  98%  of  these  PRE-1  elements  also  contain  two  conserved  internal  AluI
restriction enzyme recognition sites, and the RNA structure of PRE1 can be folded into a two arms
model like the Alu RNA structure. It is more surprising that the length of the PRE-1 fragments is
nearly  the  same  in  20  chromosomes  and  positively  correlated  to  its  fracture  site  frequency.  All  of
these  fracture  sites  are  close  to  the  mutation  hot  spots  of  PRE-1  families,  and  most  of  these
hot  spots  are  located  in  the  non-complementary  fragile  regions  of  the  PRE-1  RNA  structure.
Sequence   homology   analysis   showed   that   the   PRE-1   element   seemed   to   share   a   common
ancestor  7SL  RNA  with  primates  but  was  generated  by  different  evolutionary  model,  which
suggests that the suidae may be the closest relatives to primates in laurasiatheria.

The upshot of all of this, according to the study's author, is that the suidae family (that is, the swine family) could conceivably be grouped into a family that is otherwise mostly inhabited by primates, at least in terms of 7SL RNA-derived SINEs.

Science / Re: Clastie e-letter published
Wow, you effectively managed to post a "comment" on a website. ROFL.

Not everyone gets to publish these e-letters. They are screened by the powers that be.

I gave up on the DI and ID long ago. At first, I...
Aaaaand stopped reading.

I am now very much into niche construction.

Well it wasn't just me. Years ago, many had noticed that clastie is putting too much effort in his trolling to be doing it just for teh lulz, so we speculated that he might be trying to make a name for himself and then get employed by the DI, or some other fundy money-pit. Making shitty pseudo-research for christian propagandists who don't care about the actual science, and have tons of cash to spend, is probably Joe's dream job.

I gave up on the DI and ID long ago. At first, I welcomed intelligent design as a sophisticated form of creationism. However, I now think it is an intellectually dishonest enterprise and also incredibly inane. I have told Stephen Meyer many times that philosophically inferring design is one thing, but claiming design as an *explanation* or *cause* for biological complexity is unscientific.  Scientists need to now more than just that. They need mechanismsm, principles and processes. At least Behe has tried to claim that God generates beneficial directed mutatiohs and leaves natural selection do the rest.

Huh.  So how would that work?

Find the optimal matching of human language characters to protein characters (transliteration) and then see what the transliterated sequences reveal in terms of words. You need a language with 20 characters. There are several candidates.
So, what have the proteins *said* to you, so far?

Seriously though.  please give us details on this ground breaking proposal you've put together.   Hawkins is the only decent chew toy that survived the TR apocolypse and he's pretty much chewed out...   :(

I am only at the inquiry stage. I propose transliterating protein sequences into human language sentences.

He applied to the Templeton foundation? I am also looking at the Wolfson foundation and the Wellcome Trust.

The best cutting edge research you could undertake would be to investigate the effect of a cutthroat razor on your carotid artery.

I don't know what you mean. I am a bioinformatician, evolutionary theorist, developmental biologist, population geneticist, philosopher of science and computational biologist. I am not an anatomist.

I am in the process of applying for a massive grant from the John Templeton Foundation to investigate whether proteins have been intelligently designed by an almighty creator. I would like to see if there are other foundations like Templeton which fund cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research. Any names?

It was not what I wanted.

Sorry to interrupt, but there is a petition to end the teaching of evolution: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/moratorium-teaching-evolution#scrollTo--undefined

Mike Pence is a creationist who wants ID taught in schools. I couldn't be happier.

read the paper, dummy

Upload it here so I can read it, asshole.
