Really, Democrats need to prepare to fight the second American Civil War and then rebuild American democracy out of the resulting ashes.
Great plan... except that most of the guns are in the hands of Republicans.
This is a common myth. I'm glad to see you don't disappoint by being dumb enough to believe it.
The problem with infrequent posting is that I end up pages out of date.

Anyway, you're full of crap, WT:

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/07/15/the-demographics-and-politics-of-gun-owning-households/
49% of Republicans, 22% of Democrats

https://www.statista.com/statistics/249775/percentage-of-population-in-the-us-owning-a-gun-by-party-affiliation/
56% of republicans live in a household with guns, as opposed to 25% of democrats

So unless you're assuming that the total number of democrats WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY outnumbers republicans, then you're pretty much just straight up wrong.

On the other hand

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

really enjoyed it - I know Besson is an acquired taste, idiosyncratic storylines, tendency to introduce cheesy humour, but he also has a huge vision and creates amazing visuals, plus he's always had strong and very likeable female leads and I admire his singular approach. I love all his movies.
Haven't watched it yet, but it's on my list.  Maybe we'll watch it tonight.

On the other hand, we spent the whole holiday vacation binge-watching all of the Marvel movies, because I got dates all kind of wrong and thought that Thor: Ragnarok came out on Blu-Ray 12/31.  But I was wrong.  Still, I like a good superhero movie.

Unfortunately DC seems unable to make a good superhero movie.  Great casting, great acting, and Wonder Woman was still a serious let down :(

I think I've seen a few articles that suggest that people tend to trend right as they grow older.
eg: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/03/do-we-become-more-conservative-with-age-young-old-politics

I'm getting further and further left as I grow older. :D
Me too.

I think it's a conflation of liberal with left and conservative with right.  I don't think it's necessarily left/right that shifts over time, so much as it's liberal/conservative.  Humans tend to become more risk averse as they age, and less willing to try new things.  They're more likely to prefer sticking with the status quo (the devil you know).

Teeth, I think you're going to have to change your position here.  I'm finding it to be a reasonable and rational approach... which probably means you're fucked.

Politics and Current Events / Re: Goddamnit Al
The point is you ask for a serious investigation, state that you will stand by the findings of the investigation, and demand bipartisan buy-in to the investigatory system. Once that investigation is completed, you then ask for the resignation. It's not that fucking hard.

Jumping the gun may seem "cleaner" but alt-right operatives are already turning this into a tool to get rid of anyone they don't want. Mike Cernovich is fucking laughing all the way to the bank here.
I really kinda hate it when I have to agree with teeth on something.  But yeah - this.

WSJ Editorial Board calls for Mueller to step down

Unrelated... Why do you have a timer in your signature, and why is it counting up when it's labeled a countdown?

Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse
Again though, why then has there been so much of an effort to court Eric Prince and why is Eric Prince's sister in charge of the Department of Education?

This does make some sense of that discrepancy.
I'm sure that a properly motivated person can construct all sorts of speculative hypotheses for what *might* be the reason, *if* some other speculated thing were to be true.

Maybe, IF the rumors about Roswell are true, Prince is an alien plant masquerading as a human, and Trump's trying to get on his good side in preparation for the arrival of our overlords because we'll make great pets.

Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse
another bombshell, if true

https://politicalwire.com/2017/12/04/trump-mulls-creating-private-spy-network/

the intercept reports trump is considering creating a private spy network with the help of erik prince, "to counter the deep state".

if true, it is off-the-charts batshit, even by trump's standards.  it is also all kinds of illegal.  perhaps most importantly though, it has the potential to scare congressional republicans into removing him from office.  I've thought for a while they really do have a limit, and that it's when he becomes a threat to their own power.  if the story is true and believed, it is that threat.
Intercept also reports this:

Quote
"I can find no evidence that this ever came to the attention of anyone at the NSC or [White House] at all," wrote Michael N. Anton, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, in an email. "The White House does not and would not support such a proposal." But a current U.S. intelligence official appeared to contradict that assertion, stating that the various proposals were first pitched at the White House before being delivered to the CIA. The Intercept reached out to several senior officials that sources said had been briefed on the plans by Prince, including Vice President Mike Pence. His spokesperson wrote there was "no record of [Prince] ever having met with or briefed the VP." North did not respond to a request for comment.

According to two former senior intelligence officials, Pompeo has embraced the plan and lobbied the White House to approve the contract. Asked for comment, a CIA spokesperson said, "You have been provided wildly inaccurate information by people peddling an agenda."
In the same article.  So we've got some anonymous person(s) making a fairly wild claim, and several identified people clearly saying "that's bullshit".

IF it were true it would be some really juicy news.  Just don't forget that it's a pretty speculative IF.  I mean, IF the president were fucking the milk cow out back, that would be some really juicy news too.  IF.

I mean, for fuck's sake people, Trump is already a mess, our executive branch is in shambles.  There's not really any need to come up with even more worser things to keep people drooling over it.

I'm really starting to think that the rural/urban divide is bigger and more profound than the liberal/conservative divide.
Me too and it kinda bugs me because it's hard to articulate in a way that either side understands. Also, rural culture is way different between geographic areas. But in general, there's a freakish kind of cargo cultism on the rural end and there's a freakish kind of class-based inhumanity on the urban end and the two perspectives create an escalating positive feedback loop when they come into contact.
eh, it's a cartoonish dichotomy.  most people live in the suburbs.
I can totally get behind hating on suburban assholes.
:gonk:  I'm a self-hating suburban asshole...

most people have no political ideology whatsoever
Pretty much

:dunno:   Most people are centrists.  The entire liberal/conservative dichotomy is cartoonish.  Both of them are outlooks that focus only on the extremes and ignore the very large middle.  Doesn't ever seem to slow people down though.

I think of it more as a civilization/barbarism divide.
Morlock/Eloi

I'm just not sure which is which.

Also arrogant & elitist versus prideful & insular

Either way you cut it, they both spell "intolerant".

Radius.  You know when a movie is that bad it's good?  This was not good.
Life was really funny.  It wasn't intended as a comedy.

I'm still trying to understand how liberals are better at being shitheaded retards than conservatives are.

they say mean things which is worse than the active destruction of government functions and democratic norms and blatant fucking corruption and literally supporting a pedophile and cruel punitive deportations and all those other awesome things currently happening

ugh libs are so smarmy *shoots self in the dick, grins*
Shithead activities:

Lauding and supporting the suppression of free speech from people with whom they disagree
Supporting and calling for the normalization of political violence on the basis of belief
Condoning the abandonment of rule of law, as long as the target of vigilante "justice" is deemed to be "evil" by their standards

Conservatives have always been the Roman Catholic Church.  Liberals are trying to up the ante and become the Spanish Inquisition.

It's not even about burning it down. It takes no active ill will to let white rural america poison themselves with mine runoff and fentanyl.
Maybe not.  It also takes no active ill will to let a drowning person drown - do you consider that to be morally acceptable behavior?

Now let's make this more realistic - what if you're standing on the edge of the lake, laughing and pointing at the drowning man, making fun of him for not learning how to swim to shore, and celebrating the fact that he's going to die?

That's pretty much your position on this - you're certainly an excellent example of human compassion.

she didn't say it and might not have implied it, but I smell it nearby.  i.e., I suspect she thinks it, or that she heard and believed someone's cleaned up variant of it.
Fuck you.  There's nothing even remotely racist, or even supportive of any racist view, in any of my posts.  You guys are the assholes making this into racism.  It's asinine and wrong.  But hey - go ahead and tell yourselves how clever you are for sniffing out my "hidden" game so you can go ahead and attack that strawman instead.  Top notch honest engagement there.

I'm still trying to understand how liberals are better at being shitheaded retards than conservatives are.
They aren't historically... but they sure are trying to be this year.  Apparently it's now viewed as a competition.

The rural poor benefit disporportionately from minimum wage increases, given cost of living considerations. And they do get food assistance. Lots of it. I don't get this crazy myth that urban blacks... erm, poor people generally, get secret magic benefits.
I had a cousin try to tell me he was denied medicaid because he was white.  I asked him if that's the actual reason they gave him.  he said no, of course they're not going to say that, but he could just tell.  he added that his Mexican friend Bob did get medicaid, despite having a higher salary.  before I could ask any more questions, his sister chimed in and pointed out that Bob lived in a different state, which had expanded medicaid, whereas my male cousin lived in one that didn't, and suggested that was the real reason.  (I don't know for a fact that it is, but he is in about the right income range for that to explain it.)  then male cousin goes on an all-caps rant calling his sister "A CONDESCENDING BITCH".  (we're not an italian family, so we don't say things like that to each other lightly.)  he went on for a while.  I think there was something in there about "obama's true agenda".

anyway, it sounds like Pandora buys into this kkk myth that white people can't get public assistance.
Why the fuck are you guys smearing race all over this?

Seriously, do you feel unable to address the points without introducing a strawman of racism into the mix?
23
I have also traditionally been a lot more sympathetic towards rural America until they collectively voted to hurt people I love.
Hyperbolize much?

51%, final offer.
I think you can come up to 60%.

ETA: I might have missed some of your topics but the princess and magic fish lake were pretty spectacular fails. Sometimes you just have to suck it up an move on. :)
I'm not the one who hasn't moved on.

Plus, I was pretty irked with the completely idiotic reinvention and smooshing together of both the Greek and Roman pantheons.  Seriously, these are well established myths. - don't go fucking with them just so you can make some superheroine movie.
I'm pretty sure they've been smooshed together like that since the comics were first written in the 1940s.
Then I'm irked at DC from all the way back in the 40s then.
