Just watching "The Girl With All the Gifts". I'm 1/3 of the way in and I think it has the creepiest scene out of any zombie movie I've seen so far. Also, a cordiceps variant as the source of the zombie plague is nifty. Well worth watching.

Isn't that just pinched from 'The last of us' though? And X-Files.

I'm sure that aspect has been used before. It was done well here though.

Finally watched "Bright" (Netflix original) a couple of nights ago. It was fun. The story was fairly predictable, but it keeps going and by the (almost) end, it's astonishing to realize that the whole movie basically occurs over the course of one day.

The racism was pretty blatant, both in the positive and negative sides, and there were some fun easter eggs in it. Definitely worth sitting through.

It's impossible for orcs to be racist.

I thought the premise for Bright was interesting but the execution was meh.

Well you could say that about most of his movies, although to be fair I felt he redeemed himself a bit in my eyes in Suicide Squad (for once he was not playing himself)

I watched Bladerunner 2049 last night.  Really great movie.  The cinematography was even better on my TV than in the theater (I think I sat too close in the theater).  It's long, but worth every minute.

Yes I liked it better second time around and am looking forwards to seeing it again when it's out on BluRay

Annihilation

was interesting - seems to have very little actually in common with the original book - reminded me much more of Ballard's 'The Crystal World' - which is not a bad thing, I think it went further than the book in some ways.

Great soundtrack

Justice League - I think DC seem incapable of making a good film, same flaw as Suicide Squad, they spend half the film just introducing the characters, go for an overcooked climax and then rush it. + too much testosterone. I can't believe they left out Darkseid after the build up - wonder if they felt there was too much overlap with Thanos? (tbh Marvel copied Thanos off Darkseid but they still make better films/comics)

Ready Player One

If you want a movie that's deeper and more meaningful than the typical blockbuster fare, this isn't it.

If you want a movie with lots of action, great visuals, and an enjoyable mash-up of gaming, popular culture, and the internet as serious business, this is the one to see. Hunting for Easter Eggs has never been so cool!

I watched "A Field in England". Worth watching. A weird film, a bit like Waiting for Goddo" or R&GAD but on mushrooms.

I think I'm going to have to watch this one again. Didn't mind it, but it also didn't grab me. Might be one that gets better on the second watch.
