FX has been spamming almost continually, making threads with a quoted post or PM one after another. He's hard to keep up with.

Speaking as an Admin, I'm considering the possibility of giving him a timeout 24 hour ban or something like that.

looking at my options I may only be able to permaban him.

Yeah, something needs to be done.
I have him on "ignore" - but the "New Posts" list is continuously littered with spam.

There isn't a ban timer like vbulletin has.  We'll have to give people their abilities back manually when the ban/suspension is over.

If we want to have suspensions (and I think we do), where a member can read everything but not post during a period of time, I'll need to create permissions for that.

Should probably go ahead and do it so it's available if needed.

It was a cry for help.
Or perhaps the result boredom.
Possibly early stages of dementia...  forgetfulness/memory loss and the repetition of opening the threads.
Maybe he was just drunk posting.
Perhaps some combination of any of the above.

I hear pseudotumor cerebri can also cause blindness and obesity, in addition to spamming behaviors.

Bloody well should be. It's been around since SMF 1.0.x IIRC, certainly since 1.1.x, so Elk should definitely have it. Me go look.

To head off the next question, yes it will only do bans in 24 hours chunks by default. It would be possible to modify it to do shorter bans, but I suspect they won't really be needed.

Dunno actually. Used to be the latter, although you could add extra triggers to an existing ban (IP's, emails, usernames, etc). I haven't had to use Elk's ban system yet.

It looks like the latter just based on how the page is laid out.

Could play with a test account, but I suspect it's the same basic system as SMF.
