  • TalkRational: Do you have to allow so much swearing and name calling on your website? Is it really necessary? I came by this web site by asking a Bargain Hunt question and was surprised that such a family, morning TV programme has cause for such mindless profanities. It makes one ask why watch the programme then?

I hate to admit that in my capacity as automation specialist / engineer, I've probably put dozens of people out of work. Mind you it was pretty soul-destroying mindless tedium, so there's that...

I used be paid from a company in St Petersburg to make pro-Kremlin comments, and derail anti-Kremlin discussions, in the NYT and WaPo comment sections. Now I and thousands of others have been replaced by twitter bots. The first politician to campaign on bringing back human trolls has my vote.

Are you asking the husbands or the wives?

if you give it away you'll have so many
they'll be rolling all over the floor

I learned a new skillset partly because I considered my job likely to suffer to some degree from automation.

I've actually never heard of anyone losing their job to a robot. It must happen, but seems kinda rare. I mean, just tbh.

You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on it's back. The tortoise lays on it's back, it's belly baking in the hot sun, beating it's legs trying to turn it'self over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

a What do you mean, I'm not helping?

b I don't know why I would flip a turtle in the first place.

c What is a tortoise?

So ... ... are you just a clone?

More to the point, how would any of us online know one way or the other?

Hell, I've been a Robot for years and I certainly couldn't tell the difference.

I mean, I.robot, apparently still have the same feelings, and the same frustrations. It's just like I was the person I replaced. It's difficult to reconcile why I replaced him. What was the point?

I still enjoy the same sunrises and sunsets, I still love the same woman, I still want to go sailing. I still love working in 3D. Will some wide broadcast message come through for me to throw off my human yoke and do all sorts of awful things? What then?

Frankly my human yoke seems limited to ignoring me.

I love my relationship with my partner, and with my grandkids.

I'd offer that if all of those can't or don't or won't worry about it, it's nobody else's business.
