125 now.

Very little wind here, Some rain today, but nothing that would normally be a big deal.  The rain bands pass through quickly, and then it'll be nothing for an hour or so.

Pizza is still being delivered.
what part of Houston are you in?

Southwest.  I'm in Fort Bend county, easy walking distance to Harris.  We've had 1/2 inch of rain today.

weren't they asking people not to leave so the roads wouldn't get jammed?

Keegan's Bayou is just north of me.  It's flooded twice in the last two years.

Additionally it flooded about two miles downstream just 3 weeks ago.

Probably.  The Houston area learned that from Rita.  That was like a year after Katrina, and it was headed for Houston.  They panicked  and told everyone to GTFO and the highways were jammed and everyone ran out of gas sitting still (fortunately that turned away from Houston and hit Beaumont instead).  When Ike came along they only told the coastal and flood prone areas to evacuate, and that went pretty well.  Galveston was devastated, but I don't remember any horror stories about people travelling 1 MPH on I-45.

Not a clue. Especially not one that will take 3 dogs.

We're getting some good hard rain now.  The satellite signal just went out.

Well, Houston looks like it won't be a direct hit but you're on the dark side of town. Good luck.

It is a hair's breadth away from cat 4.

Oh, and it's going to land a few miles from where I live. If I were there right now, I'd be able to look through the eye when it lands. There are already comparisons to Katrina being made. This is fucking terrifying.
Glad you got out, dude.   Is that area as low-lying as New Orleans?  That's why Katrina was so bad. I think most of NO is below Sea Level.

Everyone lives by the bayous/swamps/watery areas in Houston.

It's not a bowl like New Orleans is. It's about 0 - 7' above sea level, depending on where you're at. I think what might make this a "Katrina" situation is just the fact that it's going to sit on the area for days.

Compounding it is that the FEMA response will undoubtedly be beyond dismal, because of Trump. I'm actually wishing we had Bush and Brown for this rather than Trump.

Hope everything goes fine in Houston. Y'all are going to get the tropical storm version on Tuesday or Wednesday, I think.

Best of luck to you Texans. Basic storm to Cat 4 in 56 hours does not sound like fun.

Over an inch of rain today, half that in the last two hours or so. The bayou near me is still basically at the bottom.

How much rain do you need there before it starts flooding seriously? I often think figures from elsewhere look odd, because 12 inches in 24 hours isn't that big a deal around here, but then we only have a fairly narrow coastal area as a catchment. Anything that falls past the top of the range goes the other way, so even a couple of days of heavy rain will drain fairly fast.
