May Ice Cover is a Million km² Below Average on the Arctic Ocean
Arctic Sea Ice in Free Fall

Quote
The Arctic Ocean this May had more than three Californias less sea ice cover than it did during an average May between 1981 and 2010. And it broke the prior record low for May by a region larger than California, although not quite as large as Texas.
I'm glad they didn't give the size in Rhode Islands.
Quote
Daily extents in May were also two to four weeks ahead of levels seen in 2012, which had the lowest September extent in the satellite record. The monthly average extent for May 2016 is more than one million square kilometers (386,000 square miles) below that observed in May 2012.

But the antarctic is bigger than ever, so "global" warming is bullshit.

There was an especially daft use of units on the news the other night. We've just had a fairly major storm go down the east coast. 400mm/16" of rain in 24 hours near my place.

Anyway it was flooding in Tassie the other day, and some twit said the flow in a river was 24,000 Volkswagens per second. My immediate thought was "Which fucking Volkswagen?"

Yeah we thought that was a bit much. 300mm/12" in 24 hours we just shrug our shoulders at, but 400mm/16" was getting a tad ridiculous.

By "/" he didn't mean "per"; he meant "or equivalently".

Oh yeah. I thought that was obvious. I tend to do conversions for Yanks since a lot of them aren't au fait with metric, and I can usually do the conversion in my head without any effort.

As was intended by the Darwinnatti from the day of your birth.

It's good to see our efforts have borne fruit.

Dammit. Every time I read one of Skeptic's posts, The Dude narrates it in my head. Even adds the odd "man" into the mix.
