Oh so last night I looked into my great great grandfather's service in the Civil War, and it turns out he served under Sherman! He received his second wound at Kennesaw Mtn (the first was at Missionary Ridge). He went back again after healing, and then reenlisted and served in the occupation after the war.

My Great Great Grandfather and his brother served under Sherman as well. His brother died during the Battle of Atlanta.

Idiot Neo-Nazi who calls himself "Baked Alaska" on Twitter.  He got bear maced in the face.

Now he is all "Can't we all just get along!!, I'm not a Nazi!!"

"Frankly, the people who were questioning that statement, was it too tough? Maybe it wasn't tough enough," Trump said. "They've been doing this to our country for a long time, for many years, and it's about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries. So, if anything, maybe that statement wasn't tough enough."

Asked what would have been tougher than "fire and fury," Trump replied only: "You'll see. You'll see."

The former chair of Grenfell Tower Residents Association says he had warned the management and the council that "refurbishment work was incompetent."

David Collins told BBC Radio 5 live that numerous concerns were raised, including fears that firefighters would have reduced access and that water boxes had been fitted above fuse boxes.

FBI raid on GOP fundraiser/consulting firm now in progress.

The FBI confirms agents are executing a search warrant at an office of a GOP fundraiser/consulting firm in Annapolis, the 11 News I-Team has learned. The investigation is being run out of Washington, not locally, the I-Team has learned. The FBI used trash bags to cover a window at the offices of Strategic Campaign Group at 191 Main St. The firm is touted for pioneering the use of technology in political campaigns, and it represents GOP candidates nationwide.

comedy I guess because it more made me laugh than be terrified.

Mr. Trump also raised some eyebrows in South Korea by saying that Korea used to be "part of China."

Politics and Current Events / Re: Removing Kim
We're going to bomb NK and get a lot of Koreans on both sides of the DMZ killed  :smith:

Oh no then they won't be able to pay us back!

He also said he wants South Korea to pay the cost of the U.S. THAAD anti-missile defense system, which he estimated at $1 billion, and intends to renegotiate or terminate a U.S. free trade pact with South Korea because of a deep trade deficit with Seoul.

"I think when you come to sarin gas, there was no, [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Ashad [?] is doing--clearly, I understand, thank you--I appreciate that--there was not, in the, in the, he brought 'em into, to the Holocaust centers, I understand that. But I'm saying the way that the sha--Assad used them, where he went into towns, dropped them down to innocent--into the middle of towns, it was brought, so, the use of it, I appreciate the clarification."

One of the press in the audience.

I just can't....

I mean I don't think that there is a facepalm big enough for this.

The US Aircraft Carrier Carl Vinson and fleet are on their way to "dear leader's" backyard.

Goddammit I should've gone to these places while I still had the chance.

My co-worker went to this last year and told me about it. Sigh...
It's something I would've wanted to see. Oh well...

CNN is playing in the hospital waiting room and all I hear is  "OMG OBAMACARE IS A MESS!!!" from these damn Republican talking heads. Like it's the greatest failure of all time.  There was some tea party nut and she was practically foaming at the mouth. Then some dick from Louisiana wouldn't answer a question about whether people currently covered under ACA would lose coverage under their garbage plan.  He just kept repeating how people will have choices... Sure asshole.

Fuck I wish I could change the channel.

This has a bit more info.

-Between 2006 and 2010 in the Rochester, NY, area, approximately 300 immigrants with legal status were arrested by Border Patrol agents, then released. The arrests coincided with an incentive program that rewarded agents with cash bonuses and Home Depot gift cards based on the number of arrests they made.

-According to the ACLU of Arizona, in Tucson, community members report CBP agents entering courthouses and hospitals (including maternity wards) and approaching and interrogating hospital patients, motorists, and pedestrians. A patient at University of Arizona Medical Center was reportedly forced to deliver her child with a CBP agent in the room. CBP agents in Tucson regularly respond to calls to investigate from police, hospital staff, and school officials. These incidents often result from and encourage racial profiling of U.S. citizens and lawful residents.

-In April 2012, residents of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State filed a class-action lawsuit challenging the Border Patrol's practice of stopping vehicles and interrogating occupants without legal justification. CBP settled the lawsuit and agreed to require training for Border Patrol agents in the area on Fourth Amendment protections against illegal searches and seizures, and to provide the ACLU with data regarding all traffic stops that take place in the area for the next 18 months. These terms should be extended nationwide and data collected from CBP checkpoints as well as roving patrols.

I've lived most of my life in Constitution free zones.

Introduced in House (01/23/2017)

Choices in Education Act of 2017

This bill repeals the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and limits the authority of the Department of Education (ED) such that ED is authorized only to award block grants to qualified states.

The bill establishes an education voucher program, through which each state shall distribute block grant funds among local educational agencies (LEAs) based on the number of eligible children within each LEA's geographical area. From these amounts, each LEA shall: (1) distribute a portion of funds to parents who elect to enroll their child in a private school or to home-school their child, and (2) do so in a manner that ensures that such payments will be used for appropriate educational expenses.

To be eligible to receive a block grant, a state must: (1) comply with education voucher program requirements, and (2) make it lawful for parents of an eligible child to elect to enroll their child in any public or private elementary or secondary school in the state or to home-school their child.

No Hungry Kids Act

The bill repeals a specified rule that established certain nutrition standards for the national school lunch and breakfast programs. (In general, the rule requires schools to increase the availability of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat free milk in school meals; reduce the levels of sodium, saturated fat, and trans fat in school meals; and meet children's nutritional needs within their caloric requirements.)
