"I think when you come to sarin gas, there was no, [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Ashad [?] is doing--clearly, I understand, thank you--I appreciate that--there was not, in the, in the, he brought 'em into, to the Holocaust centers, I understand that. But I'm saying the way that the sha--Assad used them, where he went into towns, dropped them down to innocent--into the middle of towns, it was brought, so, the use of it, I appreciate the clarification."

I just can't....

I mean I don't think that there is a facepalm big enough for this.

Goddammit I should've gone to these places while I still had the chance.

My co-worker went to this last year and told me about it. Sigh...
It's something I would've wanted to see. Oh well...

CNN is playing in the hospital waiting room and all I hear is  "OMG OBAMACARE IS A MESS!!!" from these damn Republican talking heads. Like it's the greatest failure of all time.  There was some tea party nut and she was practically foaming at the mouth. Then some dick from Louisiana wouldn't answer a question about whether people currently covered under ACA would lose coverage under their garbage plan.  He just kept repeating how people will have choices... Sure asshole.

Fuck I wish I could change the channel.

This has a bit more info.

-Between 2006 and 2010 in the Rochester, NY, area, approximately 300 immigrants with legal status were arrested by Border Patrol agents, then released. The arrests coincided with an incentive program that rewarded agents with cash bonuses and Home Depot gift cards based on the number of arrests they made.

-According to the ACLU of Arizona, in Tucson, community members report CBP agents entering courthouses and hospitals (including maternity wards) and approaching and interrogating hospital patients, motorists, and pedestrians. A patient at University of Arizona Medical Center was reportedly forced to deliver her child with a CBP agent in the room. CBP agents in Tucson regularly respond to calls to investigate from police, hospital staff, and school officials. These incidents often result from and encourage racial profiling of U.S. citizens and lawful residents.

-In April 2012, residents of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State filed a class-action lawsuit challenging the Border Patrol's practice of stopping vehicles and interrogating occupants without legal justification. CBP settled the lawsuit and agreed to require training for Border Patrol agents in the area on Fourth Amendment protections against illegal searches and seizures, and to provide the ACLU with data regarding all traffic stops that take place in the area for the next 18 months. These terms should be extended nationwide and data collected from CBP checkpoints as well as roving patrols.

Choices in Education Act of 2017

This bill repeals the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and limits the authority of the Department of Education (ED) such that ED is authorized only to award block grants to qualified states.

The bill establishes an education voucher program, through which each state shall distribute block grant funds among local educational agencies (LEAs) based on the number of eligible children within each LEA's geographical area. From these amounts, each LEA shall: (1) distribute a portion of funds to parents who elect to enroll their child in a private school or to home-school their child, and (2) do so in a manner that ensures that such payments will be used for appropriate educational expenses.

To be eligible to receive a block grant, a state must: (1) comply with education voucher program requirements, and (2) make it lawful for parents of an eligible child to elect to enroll their child in any public or private elementary or secondary school in the state or to home-school their child.

No Hungry Kids Act

The bill repeals a specified rule that established certain nutrition standards for the national school lunch and breakfast programs. (In general, the rule requires schools to increase the availability of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat free milk in school meals; reduce the levels of sodium, saturated fat, and trans fat in school meals; and meet children's nutritional needs within their caloric requirements.)

Not sure if this was posted in this thread or not....

President Trump will propose a federal budget that dramatically increases defense-related spending by $54 billion while cutting other federal agencies by the same amount, according to an administration official.

The proposal represents a massive increase in federal spending related to national security, while other priorities, especially foreign aid, will see significant reductions.

According to the White House, the defense budget will increase by 10 percent. But without providing any specifics, the administration said that most other discretionary spending programs will be slashed to pay for it. Officials singled out foreign aid, one of the smallest parts of the federal budget, saying it would see "large reductions" in spending.

The Kansas-City Star reports that Adam W. Purinton allegedly shot three men in the incident --Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32; Alok Madasani, 32, and Ian Grillot, 24, who was shot after trying to intervene. Kuchibhotla died Wednesday evening.

Witnesses report that they heard Purinton yell "Get out of my country" before shooting Kuchibhotla and Madsani. After fleeing the scene, Purinton made his way to an Applebees in the town of Clinton, reportedly telling the bartender there that he "needed a place to hide out because he had just killed two Middle Eastern men." Neither Madsani or Kuchibhotla are of Middle Eastern descent; they worked as engineers at Garmin and are believed to be from India, the Verge reports.

Yeah, I like her style. This piece was also pretty good:

In other news, Richard Spencer was just kicked out of CPAC. They're saying they kicked him out because they don't support his views, so even though he had bought tickets, security escorted him out. lol. So much for "free speech," eh guys?

One of the speakers, Dan Schneider, just called the alt-right a "hateful left-wing fascist group." :hmm:

Politics and Current Events / Re: Immigration megathread

Under the Obama administration, undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes were the priority for removal. Now, immigration agents, customs officers and border patrol agents have been directed to remove anyone convicted of any criminal offense.

That includes people convicted of fraud in any official matter before a governmental agency and people who "have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits."

The change in enforcement priorities will require a considerable increase in resources. With an estimated 11 million people in the country illegally, the government has long had to set narrower priorities, given the constraints on staffing and money.

In the so-called guidance documents released on Tuesday, the department is directed to begin the process of hiring 10,000 new immigration and customs agents, expanding the number of detention facilities and creating an office within Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help families of those killed by undocumented immigrants. Mr. Trump had some of those relatives address his rallies in the campaign, and several were present when he signed an executive order on immigration last month at the Department of Homeland Security.

The directives would also instruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as Customs and Border Protection, the parent agency of the Border Patrol, to begin reviving a program that recruits local police officers and sheriff's deputies to help with deportation, effectively making them de facto immigration agents. The effort, called the 287(g) program, was scaled back during the Obama administration.

The officials also made clear that nothing in the directives would change the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which provides work permits and deportation protection for the young people commonly referred to as Dreamers.

There was no mention of the National Guard thing, so that is good...

Politics and Current Events / Re: Immigration megathread

A draft memo obtained by The Associated Press outlines a Trump administration proposal under consideration to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants. Millions of those who would be affected in 11 states live nowhere near the Mexico border.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana. If the proposal is implemented, governors in the affected states would have final approval on whether troops under their control participate.

Fucking Christ....

Some more interesting moments from Trumpy's festivus party:

During his combative White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, President Trump had one particularly bizarre exchange with American Urban Radio Networks' D.C. bureau chief April Ryan, in which he asked Ryan, who is black, if she is "friends" with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). The comment came in response to Ryan asking: "When you say the inner cities, are you going to include the CBC in conversations with urban agenda?" Trump responded: "Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours? Set up a meeting. I would love to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus. I think it's great."

Then when he was asked about anti-semitism from a Jewish reporter:

"So here's the story, folks," Trump continued in response to Turx. "Number one, I am the least anti-Semitic person that you've ever seen in your entire life. Number two, racism. The least racist person, in fact we did very well, relative to other people running as a Republican..."

"But let me know just tell you something, that I hate the charge," Trump went on, returning to the question of anti-Semitism. "I find it repulsive. I hate even the question, because people that know me, and you heard the prime minister, you heard Netanyahu yesterday, did you hear him, Bibi? He said, 'I've known Donald Trump for a long time,' and then he said, 'Forget it.'"

Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse
Also, kudos to the reporter who had awesome notes s/he was reading from, no doubt collected to cover the repetitive claims Trumps so often makes. He spouted again (for the second time during the PC?) the number of electoral votes he received and boasted how it was the biggest win since Reagan. Reporter brings up that both Obama and Bush had much bigger wins and reads off the actual numbers.

I know that at least half the numbers he was bandying about at different points were bullshit, and I hold suspect the rest that I don't know enough about to judge. (edit- to to be fair, several of the times he brought up a number he covered his ass by saying "I think that's right, I don't know, you can check, yadda)

Anyway, the important thing to come away with is that the media is to blame for everything.

* He was asked about the same anti-semitism thing during the PC with Netanyahu yesterday, and for no reason at all that I could tell at the time, he spouted off about his electoral numbers again. And then he drifted as usual and slowly rambled about Ivanka, the SIL and his grandkids being Jews and didn't finish the point. I think he was trying to imply "I have a lot more followers than those bigots so that means some normal people too" if I had to guess.

Full Frontal made a graphic for that:

Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse

QUESTION: I just want to get you to clarify this very important point. Can you say definitively that nobody on your campaign had any contacts with the Russians during the campaign? And on the leaks, is it fake news or are these real leaks?

TRUMP: Well the leaks are real. You're the one that wrote about them and reported them, I mean the leaks are real. You know what they said, you saw it and the leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake because so much of the news is fake. So one thing that I felt it was very important to do -- and I hope we can correct it. Because there's nobody I have more respect for -- well, maybe a little bit but the reporters, good reporters.

It's very important to me and especially in this position. It's very important. I don't mind bad stories. I can handle a bad story better than anybody as long as it's true and, you know, over a course of time, I'll make mistakes and you'll write badly and I'm OK with that. But I'm not OK when it is fake. I mean, I watch CNN, it's so much anger and hatred and just the hatred.

I don't watch it any more because it's very good -- he's saying no. It's OK, Jim (ph). It's OK, Jim (ph), you'll have your chance. But I watch others too. You're not the only one so don't feel badly. But I think it should be straight. I think it should be -- I think it would be frankly more interesting. I know how good everybody's ratings are right now but I think that actually -- I think that'd actually be better.

People -- I mean, you have a lower approval rate than Congress. I think that's right. I don't know, Peter (ph), is that one right? Because you know I think they have lower -- I heard lower than Congress. But honestly, the public would appreciate it, I'd appreciate it -- again, I don't mind bad stories when it's true but we have an administration where the Democrats are making it very difficult.

What is this goddamn rambling nonsense?  JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!
