Anyone getting a 403 error page when trying to log in?
I found I was getting this when trying to use the quick log in form up in the site header.. Dunno why at the moment.

Anyway, what seems to work is if I ignore that form and hit the "Log in" button in the main menu instead, then use the form that shows up on that page (http://mcfrye.com/tr/index.php?action=login).

Again, dunno why at the moment, but figured this might be useful for others.

I think we can turn off the quick login form.  I'm pretty sure I saw that as an option when I was scurrying through the forum setup yesterday.

Well after posting that, and logging out again to try another test, the login page gave me a 403 too. ::)

But then I tried it again and it didn't (ergo current presence). Meh.

In vbulletin, in the who's online display there was an option to display user agents.  This made it easy-ish to watch for bad-behaving bots.  Is there anything analogous in Elkarte?

Not AFAIK at the moment. Suggest asking. I used to just ban most of China in .htaccess. :D

I've constantly had 403's until today.
Who even made the rule that we cannot group ducks and fish together for the simple reason that they are both aquatic? If I want to group them that way and it serves my purpose then I can jolly well do it however I want to and it is still a nested hierarchy and you can't tell me that it's not.

i get occational 403
visiting a users page and logging in from there seems to work sometimes
ex. http://mcfrye.com/tr/index.php?action=profile;u=7

it could be the login button on the main/index page thats broken

i may have figured it out

loggin into here gives problems
http://tr.mcfrye.com/index.php

Yeah, when yesterday when I opened http://tr.mcfrye.com/index.php it looks as though I wasn't logged in, and if I tried to log in I'd get the 403 error, I suspect because I already was logged in, because when I tried other pages it just went straight in.

I've opened a ticket with my webhost about this.  I know it's affecting at least one other site on this shared server.  I'll update this thread with what I learn.

Hey Ema wondered if the server logs have any interesting error messages about this.

The only thing in the errror log is this single record:

2016-06-05 17:42:14.361 [INFO] [66.249.65.90:45470] File not found [/home/mcfryeco/public_html/403.shtml]

Well that's not much use. Tell it to record something more interesting. :P

I think it may have been a cpu bottleneck.  MMD is having a look now.

osmanthus did some tuning of the forum config, and I disabled some plug-ins elsewhere on the site that might contribute to show-downs.

Please email me if you experience a 403 error and can't get into this forum for a bit.  My email is on the talkrational.org landing page, and you should be able to access that page when this site is being wonky.

haha!

It's temporary.

I'm talking with a MDD support guy now.  It's such a relief dealing with them after the Arvixe crap the last couple of weeks.
