2016 hurricane season thread (belated)
Don't we traditionally have a hurricane tracking thread every year?

Rednose usually starts them.  Where is he?

This thread is a couple of months late in starting.  But we can talk about Matthew anyway.  Nassau is getting pretty much demolished as I type.  Fun in Florida next.

My Atlantic coast family and friends have all been advised to evacuate.  Several are in mandatory evacuation areas.  Most of them are taking up temporary residence in more central parts of the peninsula.  Which is where the tornadoes will be spawned, so yay?

When I evacuated, I didn't fuck around.  I usually put 300 miles or so between me and the coast.

It's looking like the eye will hit just south of where I went to high school.  I've got a bunch of friends (plus my mom) still in the area.  Everyone that I know of has evacuated from the beach communities. I know a lot of people in Melbourne and Palm Bay right now.

When I evacuated, I didn't fuck around.  I usually put 300 miles or so between me and the coast.

Several friends were planning on staying when it looked like it was going to stay offshore, they all changed their minds today. Most just moved inland, but my mom is headed to Tallahassee, and another friend headed to Pensacola.

The only actual hurricane that I experienced while living there was Erin which made landfall about the same place as this one, but it was only a cat 1.  This is currently a 4. I was in Melbourne, so our family on the beachside stayed with us.

My parents evacuated 4 different times in 2004, and when they came home there was very little damage.  They would have been fine staying and I think many people did, despite the warnings.  Again this one is different.

Does this work?

It looks like the eye just missed Nassau, and now it's about to slam into Freeport on Grand Bahama.

Shit. I really wish he would have evacuated. A bunch of people we know in Jupiter/Tequesta are staying too. The news says the eye will pass over Jupiter. Fucking fuck.

Is there a live update site, testy? CBC is updating about once an hour. I have some Florida cousins, most of them live around Apopka though.

yeah, I've got a couple open and the weather channel on. It's not going to get bad for another couple hours though. Goddamn alarmist news people make it sound like a nuclear bomb is about to drop on melbourne.

They were probably talking it up to convince stragglers to leave. There's been a bit of that going on (with good reason, of course).

yeah, some of them are like that.

I like our local CTV and CBC meteorologists, though. They're pretty straightforward about storms.

It's going to make a hell of a mess. They're forecasting 20 foot waves on top of a 10 foot storm surge.
