Getting in touch with members
I can put together a less frazzled looking landing page at Arvixe-TR.

I have the user list.  I can send an email blast to all members or some subset of members based on their recent activity.

What do you think about an email notice and what should the parameters be?

I want to leave the domain where it is until we are well and truly finished with Arvixe.

Email notice seems sensible - members active within the last six months? Or three months? Three months would catch the regulars. I'm sure we could leave an obvious note at MR also, since that seems to be a landing spot for some of the lost and alone.

I'd be inclined to email nearly the full list of people who've ever signed up. Even if they've stopped posting it will be a nostalgia trip for a lot of people.

Good point. There are only a few old members I'd just as soon failed to rediscover TR.

FFS add style="background: #fff;" to the html tag. :P

osmanthus is sick of slacko bastards who merrily just assume that everyfuknone will still have the default white background on empty browser tabs.

 osmanthus is finished grumbling now.

Looks great.  It would be nice to see that, if I wasn't already at MR.

It looks disgustingly 1990s. I love it. You should put in an "under construction" animated gif too.

Dates in the user table are in a horrific internal-to-vbulletin format that is useless for determining exactly how long ago someone visited the site.  By eyeballing the list sorted by the most recent visit date, I can get a relative sense of about how long ago someone visited.

How does this sound?

- While we're on this server, do a limited email outreach.  I've arbitrarily picked 500 (active accounts, not drive by bots who showed up once and never returned), because I'm certain that's everyone who visited in the last 6 months, and may be everyone in the last year.  I'm also excluding people who have made it very clear that they don't intend to darken TR's door again

- I'm going to try not to email people who are already registered or who I know for sure have the link to this site.

- Once we're on a permanent server, then email the entire user list except bots and previously banned members, including people who slammed the door on their way out way back when.

My rationale for not emailing the whole kit and kaboodle is that I don't know how much traffic my little slice of server can stand, and I don't want this forum's performance to become terrible.  Or the rest of the site for that matter.

If this sounds ok, I'll send an email out later today.

Stuff I still have to do:

write the email text.  (If someone else wants to take a swat at it, I'll be happy to use it)

install a web email client so I can send the email from the admin@talkrational.org account.  I used to be able to do this from within vbulletin on TR, but that's not possible anymore.

Sounds fine to me. Once I have coffee I might go and dump the memescape table. Then any of us can add stuff in as we feel like it.

Thanks.  I'm going to run through these events mentally for a long time, wondering if old-TR could have been salvaged if only.  But, for now, I'm focusing on next steps and the community's continuity.
